Tottenham tipped to appoint Man Utd legend after speaking to other managers over replacing Ange Postecoglou

TOTTENHAM have been tipped to appoint Manchester United legend Michael Carrick after speaking to potential replacements for Ange Postecoglou. The Aussie's future remains in doubt despite guiding Spurs to glory in the Europa League. 2 2 The Londoners finished the Premier League season in 17th. And Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has been speaking to other managers about potentially replacing Postecoglou in the dugout this summer. Fulham's Marco Silva and Brentford's Thomas Frank have both been linked with the job. While there is also interest in Crystal Palace FA Cup winner Oliver Glasner and Inter Milan Champions League finalist Simone Inzaghi. However, former Chelsea, West Ham and England winger Joe Cole reckons Spurs should be looking in another direction. He has urged them to drop their gaze south to the Championship and take a look at their former midfielder Carrick, who is now in charge of Middlesbrough. The five-time Premier League winner with Man United has been in charge at the Riverside since October 2022, winning 63 of his 136 games in charge. Carrick's Boro finished 10th in the table this season, four points off the playoffs. But despite missing out on a promotion push, Cole feels Carrick could be a perfect fit for Tottenham, where he made 75 appearances between 2004 and 2006 as a player. Cole told Paddy Power: 'At Tottenham, Daniel Levy is running out of managerial candidates for the job. He's gone big, he's gone bold, and he's gone off the beaten track, but none of them seem to have worked. 'Michael Carrick could be a good option for the manager's job. An ex-Spurs player, who understands the club, would be quite nice. 'Also, I'd like to see Glenn Hoddle back at the club in some capacity. I know Tottenham fans would love to see him back and he's got the best football brain I know. 'I'd love to see Glen Hoddle back in the club in some capacity, maybe supporting Michael Carrick. The club needs bringing together because it was really torn at times last season.'

There was some hope that Brighton could have joined the European contingent, but that was dashed on the final day of the Premier League season. Chelsea would have needed to finish seventh in the top flight and then won the Conference League on Wednesday, or finish sixth, with Newcastle seventh, before winning in Wroclaw. As the Blues beat Nottingham Forest to finish fourth, the Seagulls could no longer make it into the Conference League next season, despite finishing eighth. Joe Cole suffers wardrobe malfunction celebrating Chelsea goal and causes £3000 of damage but says ‘I ain't paying'

JOE COLE suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction as he celebrated Chelsea becoming Conference League champions. His former club came from behind to beat Real Betis 4-1 in Wroclaw, Poland, and become the first club to complete the set of Uefa competitions. 3 3 3 However, Cole 's enthusiasm to celebrate as Chelsea scored came back to bite him. Watching the game from the TNT Sports studio in the 40,000 Wroclaw Stadium, Cole looked sharp as he wore a brown suit and white shirt for his TV duties. He was appearing alongside West Ham star Michail Antonio and ex-Chelsea team-mate Steve Sidwell, as well as presenter Emma Dodds. And a clip shared to the broadcasters social media pages showed how the 43-year-old celebrated one of the Blues' goals, before he had an unfortunate incident. Cole was seen jumping up and down with his arms in the air when Chelsea grabbed a goal. The beaming former midfielder then went to Sidwell to hug him over the table. But his animated response to the goal prompted Dodds to try and intervene to stop him knocking over some drinks on the table. She was seen grabbing a microphone, but not before the contents of a cup of tea had been knocked over on the table in the chaos. Cole turned around and noticed the mess which saw his face go from jubilation to horror before he is heard saying: "Oh no my tea." He then picked it up and took a swig before looking for some napkins to clean up the table which was drenched in liquid. Moment Chelsea & Real Betis fans CLASH in Poland launching bottles & smoke grenades hours before Europa Conference final After returning into camera shot, Cole then picked up a microphone and showed it to the camera. Cole then joked: "[That's] About three grands worth. "I ain't paying." Chelsea won the match thanks to goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo. But Cole heaped praise on "genius" Cole Palmer, who had notched two assists to turn the game around following Abde Ezzalzouli's first half strike for Betis. Cole said on TNT Sports: "Cole Palmer, absolute genius. We don't produce these players. "They don't fall off trees. He took the game by the scruff of the neck tonight and made it happen. "There aren't many players in world football who can do what he does." Cole, who was a Champions League runner-up with the Stamford Bridge outfit in 2008 - the last major Uefa final the team were defeated in - added: "Chelsea is a huge club at this level. "And what I would say, for these young players and this team to win a trophy, it's going to take them to the next level. "But it's not about that tonight. It's about a group of young footballers, young coaches, coming together and achieving something. "Don't be looking down your noses at this." Cole also gave his transfer verdict on loan star Sancho, who Chelsea have the option to sign from Manchester United for £25million or face a £5m penalty to not sign him. He said: "I think Jadon is a really great player and I think he's done well. "He's been rotated in and out a bit but I want to see Jadon playing. You want a player like that in your squad. It will come down to a financial decision I imagine but I really like him." Asked specifically whether the winger had done enough to justify a permanent move, Cole said: "Yes I do. "This is a kid who went to Dortmund and was a superstar as a kid. It wasn't working at Man United but he's done well, he's got his career back on track at Chelsea.

Chelsea: Joe Cole predicts 'really good era' after Conference League final win completes European set

Joe Cole has said that he senses a 'really good era' approaching for Chelsea following their Conference League final win. Chelsea trailed at half-time to Real Betis as Abde Ezzalzouli deservedly put the LaLiga outfit - chasing their first-ever European title - in front as early as the ninth minute in Wroclaw, Poland. They held out until just after the hour mark when Cole Palmer turned the game on its head by providing assists for Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson in the space of five minutes. The contest was over when Jadon Sancho netted with just under ten minutes remaining, before Moises Caicedo added a fourth just as the clock ticked into stoppage-time. Victory once again on the European stage means Chelsea have completed the set after previous successes in the Champions League and Europa League. In addition, a trophy caps off a successful season where Enzo Maresca has guided the side back into the Champions League with a top-four finish in the Premier League. 🏆 THE 2024/2025 UEFA CONFERENCE LEAGUE WINNERS, CHELSEA 🏆 — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) May 28, 2025 Reflecting on the campaign, Cole believes something special is on the horizon for his former club. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: 'The team has developed, it's grown, there's been speed bumps in the road and what I've been really impressed with is they haven't let lingered more than two or three games which is very difficult. 'Nights like tonight, you know the fans are very demanding because they are used to winning. 'Now they have seen this team win, they have more belief and players have more belief in the fans, that is so crucial. 'I feel there is a really good era coming.'
