Local organizations unite for digital opportunity in Rockford
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The City of Rockford announced a new coalition that aims to increase digital opportunities in the area. The Rockford Digital Opportunity Initiative comes after a partnership between the city and the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence and Comcast. The coalition features several local organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Rockford, RPS205 and Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois as well. The group hopes to fight the 'digital divide' in Rockford, which creates many barriers, one speaker said. 'Price is one, but it's also relevancy and access to digital equipment, right? So, a computer or something like that,' said Comcast Senior Director of External Affairs Joe Higgins. 'So, what this coalition will do is bring all of those needs into one place, and then a team of collective people thinking about this will come up with the strategy to help try to fix that.'
