Joel Klatt includes Carson Beck in top 10 quarterback rankings
Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt released his top 10 quarterbacks rankings on YouTube. Since it's a little over two months before the college football season kicks off, he ranked the top 10 quarterbacks entering the season. Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck made the top 10 rankings with the Miami Hurricanes. Klatt believes that he's giving Beck the benefit of the doubt, not blaming Beck for all the problems with the 2024 UGA passing offense. Georgia had 35 dropped passes last season, which was tough for the Georgia offense to deal with. However, Klatt believes that Beck turned the ball over too much. Advertisement Klatt believes the UCL injury Beck suffered in the SEC championship could still affect Beck in 2025. He hasn't thrown all offseason until recently, and he hasn't had a ton of time with his receivers to develop chemistry in spring ball. Klatt also believes that Beck has had some off the field distractions. However, despite all of that, Klatt believes that Beck is a really good player, which is why he believes Beck will be among the best quarterbacks in the country. Last season, Beck threw 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions on 448 attempts. There are a lot of varying opinions on Beck, but he has a lot to prove in 2025. Joel Klatt calls for Bedlam to be played every year
Joel Klatt calls for Bedlam to be played every year When the Oklahoma Sooners departed the Big 12 Conference in favor of the Southeastern Conference last summer, their annual "Bedlam" rivalry game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys was lost. The Pokes remained in the Big 12, while OU went to the SEC along with the Texas Longhorns. After years of a great in-state college football rivalry being played annually, the matchup stopped after the 2023 season. With the two teams in different leagues, there was little interest (especially from OSU's side) about continuing to play the game. As it stands currently, there are no future Bedlam games on the books. FOX Sports' lead college football color commentator, Joel Klatt, called for that to change. On his show, "The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast", he discussed multiple rivalries in the sport that need to be played every single year. Oklahoma-Oklahoma State wasn't the only rivalry he wanted to see annually. Klatt also wanted to see games like Notre Dame-USC, Kansas-Missouri, Florida-Miami, and Colorado-Nebraska happen each season, calling them "part of the fabric of this sport." But there was no game he wanted to see more than Bedlam. He pointed out that the Cowboys were less than thrilled about the Sooners leaving them high and dry in their old conference. 'You talk about no love lost in particular after the conference realignment, I want Bedlam. I want Bedlam every year," Klatt said. "Nothing is scheduled right now. In December, Joe Castiglione, the athletic director at Oklahoma, said it wouldn't be until well into the 2030s that we're gonna get this matchup.' Bedlam began in 1904 and has been played 118 times since then. Oklahoma has dominated the series and holds a 91-20-7 all-time series lead. In the last 25 matchups, the Sooners are 19-6, including an eight-year win streak from 2003 to 2010, and a six-year win streak from 2015 to 2020. Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy recently proposed a spring game series between the two programs, but that wouldn't even be close to the same thing as a true game in the fall. Conference realignment took Bedlam away from us. As a result, the Sooners don't want to add another difficult game to their schedule in the most daunting league in the sport. OU will be trying to make the College Football Playoff and they always get OSU's best shot when the teams face off. That could come back to haunt Oklahoma, as a loss would be very costly. The Cowboys don't want to have to play a team each season that typically gets the better of them, and they also have a shot to make the CFP now in the expanded playoff era. A loss to OU could be the difference between being in or out. However, there is hope. SEC teams like Georgia, Florida and South Carolina play an out-of-conference rival every season. The Bulldogs have the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Gators have the Florida State Seminoles. The Gamecocks have the Clemson Tigers. All three are also in-state rivalries. The Bedlam Series is one of college football's most exciting rivalry contests. Bringing it back would be a great thing for the sport. Although it may never happen, there's still hope that the Sooner State rivals can put down their swords long enough to get games on the schedule down the road. Then, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State can pick the swords back up and start fighting again, except that these fights would happen on the football field where they belong. Where does Fox Sports' Joel Klatt ranking Texas' Arch Manning among top five QBs?
Where does Fox Sports' Joel Klatt ranking Texas' Arch Manning among top five QBs? Who are the top QBs for the 2025 season? 👀@joelklatt breaks down his Top 5 ⬇️ — The Joel Klatt Show: A CFB Pod (@JoelKlattShow) May 19, 2025 The season is still a few months away, but there are plenty of opinions about how Arch Manning will fare as the new starting quarterback at the University of Texas. The media and fans got a glimpse of Manning in 2024, but projecting two and a half games of play as a fill in into the 2025 season can be tricky. Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt is out with his top five quarterbacks for the upcoming season. Manning is on his list and is the only QB mentioned that doesn't have a season as a starter under his belt. So where does Klatt rank the new kid on the block? Klatt ranks Manning as the No. 2 QB in college football. He ranks two-year starter Cade Klubnik of Clemson as the top QB in college. "Dabo Swinney has a quarterback that could lead them to a national championship," Klatt said. As for Manning, the former Colorado QB thinks Manning has all the tools to have a huge year for the Longhorns. "I just don't see a world that Arch doesn't succeed at Texas. He's got the pedigree. The games that we did see him play we saw a guy that can put the defense in conflict. We're talking about with his legs and the ability to stretch the defense with his arm. So he can throw the ball down the field and threaten every single blade of grass on the field, but he can also put edge defenders in conflict and be one of the better running quarterbacks that we saw last year. In a lot of ways he reminds me and those that I work with of Trevor Lawrence. Arch at Texas with Sark and all those pieces around him I think he's going to have a tremendous year." - Joel Klatt of Fox Sports Joel Klatt's Top 5 QBs in college football Cade Klubnik, Clemson Arch Manning, Texas John Mateer, Oklahoma Sam Keavitt, Arizona State Drew Allar, Penn State Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

Opinion: Joel Klatt is wrong to connect Michigan football scandal and Santa Ono departure
Opinion: Joel Klatt is wrong to connect Michigan football scandal and Santa Ono departure Michigan football is expected to suspend head coach Sherrone Moore for two games after Moore deleted his text message chain with Connor Stalions (though he produced the texts for the NCAA investigators). The suspension is set for Weeks 3-4 in the 2025 season, and Fox Sports' Joel Klatt is none too happy about the selective punishment for the second-year Wolverines coach. On his podcast, Klatt called the action 'self-serving for Michigan' in advance of the June 6-7 committee on infractions hearing with the NCAA, where the university's athletic department and the governing body will meet to discuss the notice of allegations and the U-M response. "Let's be incredibly honest about it. It is self-serving for Michigan," Klatt said. "This benefits them to try to get out in front of it as one thing to get out in front of it, to benefit you. The most is another, which obviously trying to get your feet wet -- not only as let's face it a young head coach, but also with a new quarterback -- you don't want to try to go through all of those gymnastics early in the year with this suspension. So get your feet wet as a team. And in particular, the starting quarterback for the first two weeks and that big road test -- Big Ten-SEC. as Michigan goes on the road to Oklahoma -- which, like I said, is Sherrone's alma mater -- and then serve the suspension. Is that beneficial for Michigan? Obviously, yes. Obviously, yes. Which is why they're trying to do it this way." Is it self-serving? Yes. But schools often punish themselves in a way that seems fit to them in lieu of the NCAA doling out punishments -- it's the NCAA's role to decide whether or not that's enough. The NCAA could determine that it should be different games, or it could decide more games, or it could decide that two games for deleting texts (which were later produced) is OK. Klatt goes on to say that with Michigan levying this punishment alongside U-M president Santa Ono leaving for Florida could be an omen for how deep this rabbit hole goes. "So now you have Michigan trying to get out in front of a suspension for their head coach, Sherrone Moore, and the president leaving for a job that we would all at least assume is not quite as prestigious," Klatt said. "So something's coming, and it's likely very large and could be even financial. So the Michigan saga is going to be with us at least for a few more months, a couple months after June." There is no indication that Ono's departure has to do with sports -- in fact, athletic director Warde Manuel, who was in power for the entirety of this saga, was extended in his role after all the news came out. Ono, however, has been overseeing the university during other tumult -- from Israeli-Palestinian disagreements on campus, the elimination of the DEI departments to the chagrin of some members of the board of regents, as well as clashes with regents and their view of the current U.S. administration's viewpoints. It is much more likely that Ono is departing due to a combination of factors, such as the aforementioned, and nothing to do with sports -- especially with Manuel having been extended. The University of Michigan has a $19.2 billion endowment -- considered the third-biggest of public universities and ninth overall. Michigan Medicine, the U-M hospital system, makes nearly $8 billion in revenue and has a series of endowments near $1 billion. The U-M athletic department makes about $250 million in revenue -- scant compared to other aspects of business for the president in Ann Arbor. Certainly, a sign-stealing 'scandal' has little to do with university business. Klatt is right that something is coming, but there have been no indications, other than rival fan screeching online, that Michigan will be subject to upheaval. Early indications do suggest that this suspension, a fine, recruiting restrictions, and show-causes for Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stalions are likely to be the punishment.

Joel Klatt leaves Georgia outside his top five college football rankings
Joel Klatt leaves Georgia outside his top five college football rankings Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt released his way-too-early top 25 after the spring transfer portal window. With spring ball concluding and the 2025 college football season around three months away, Klatt ranked his top 25 teams. Surprisingly, he didn't include Georgia in his top five, ranking them eighth. It's four spots lower from where he placed Georgia in his way-too-early top 10 after the national championship. Klatt introduces Georgia as a team that "he didn't really know what to do with". He wanted to put them higher due to the prestige, but he wasn't sold on the roster. Here's his reasoning for putting Georgia at No. 8: "This is a team that is going to have to win because their roster is better than other rosters," said Klatt. "Gunner Stockton is going to have to be a real quality player. This is a trust with Georgia. They recruit well and they develop well... there's just some teams ahead of them where I believe in the quarterback a little more than Georgia's." That's why teams such as LSU and Oregon rank higher than Georgia. LSU's Garrett Nussmeier is a potential Heisman candidate and first-round draft selection. For Oregon, UCLA transfer Dante Moore is expected to win the starting job after Dillon Gabriel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. Notre Dame also leapfrogs Georgia in the rankings and Joel Klatt believes that Notre Dame could go undefeated if they win their first two games of the season. Illinois and Alabama enter the top 10. Alabama has several returning pieces on the team, such as Kaydn Proctor and Ryan Williams. Illinois returns a lot and has a relatively easy schedule. Klatt believes the Fighting Illini could be the non-traditional Big Ten team to make the playoffs. Here is Joel Klatt's post-spring top 25 25. Oklahoma 24. Baylor 23. Iowa 22. Auburn 21. Indiana 20.
