Contract details for newly re-signed Cardinals S Joey Blount

The two-year contract signed by Arizona Cardinals safety Joey Blount is worth about $1 million less than the base value of just shy of $5 million we reported during the weekend. Blount can earn $4.75 million, but to do that he would have to reach a $500,000 incentive of which the details are unknown at this time. Without the incentives, the contract is worth $3.75 million including a $400,000 signing bonus. The base salaries are $1.225 million this year and $1.515 million in 2026. In each year, there is a $50,000 workout bonus and per-game roster bonuses of $15,000 that maxes out at $255,000. The salary-cap charge is $1.7 million this year and $2.02 million in 2026. Blount played 15 games in 2024 and was one of the team's best special teams players. He was one of the gunners on punt coverage and tied for the overall team lead with seven special-teams tackles, of which six were solo. He suffered an injury to his ribs in the Week 16 game against the Carolina Panthers, was inactive the following week and then was on injured reserve for the final game of the season. Arizona Cardinals 2025 free agency tracker

NFL free agency begins Monday at 9 a.m. Arizona time with the "legal tampering period" in which teams are permitted to communicate with and negotiate contracts with players whose contracts will expire with the beginning of the new league year on Wednesday. There has been plenty of action over the last few days with teams re-signing their own players, agreeing to trades, releasing players and signing players who have been released. The Arizona Cardinals are expected to be active in free agency, as they have more cap space than almost every team in the league. But we will see what they end up doing. Below, we will keep track of the Cardinals' moves and the moves of their free agents. Arizona Cardinals re-sign pair of key special teams players

The Arizona Cardinals, days before the actual start of free agency, have taken care of a pair of their key special teams players. They announced on Friday that they re-signed long snapper Aaron Brewer to a one-year contract and safety/special teams ace Joey Blount to a two-year deal. Brewer returns for his 10th season as the Cardinals' long snapper. He has played in every game in each of the last two seasons and made a pair of special teams tackles. Last season, between kickers Matt Prater and Chad Ryland, they made 34-of-38 field goals and 36-of-37 extra points. With Brewer's return, the trio of specialists for the Cardinals appear set, as Ryland and punter Blake Gillikin are both under contract for the 2025 season. Prater is expected to leave in free agency after missing 13 games last season with a knee injury. Blount gets a multi-year deal. He was a restricted free agent, but the Cardinals weren't likely to use a qualifying tender. He originally joined the Cardinals in 2023 and played 11 games. He appeared in 15 games last season logging a career-high 268 special teams snaps. His seven special teams snaps were tied for the second-most on the team last season. In 2023, he had the second-most special teams tackles on the team with nine and forced two fumbles. Cards Wire will have details of the contracts in the coming days once they become official and are filed with the league.
