Bears in position to win Valley championship
SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Bears started this baseball season on Valentines Day.
And Joey Hawkins' mission from game one was to win the Valley regular season championship.
And do that in the Bears final season in the conference.
In our Bear Nation update, Hawkins has Missouri State in position to do just that.
Over the weekend, the Bears took two of three from Indiana State.
That leaves Missouri State with a one game lead on Murray State.
And the Bears end the regular season with the racers in Kentucky starting Thursday.
If MoState can win two of the three, the Bears will win the regular season title.
'Honestly, it's postseason time. The regular season is on the line, sure. But it's going to feel like postseason baseball. And you have to have a short memory. We've talked as a group about three weeks ago that we were going to shift our intensity and focus into postseason mode. And I think we've been playing like that. We've obviously been winning a lot of series. And we put ourselves in position to be in first place going into the last weekend. I don't think there's any kind of crazy change you're going to see. It's just a matter of playing good baseball,' said Hawkins.
