Syracuse wins thriller over Princeton to advance to semifinals
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) –
For the first time since 2013, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA semifinals. SU knocking off #3 Princeton 19-18 in the quarterfinals on Saturday down on Long Island.
SU broke the game open in the third, outscoring Princeton 6-1. The Tigers erased a four-goal deficit, taking a 18-17 lead with under five minutes to play. Syracuse answered, regaining the lead on an Owen Hiltz goal with 3:50 to play. SU would hold on, snapping a 12-year championship weekend draught.
Joey Spallina led the Syracuse attack with four goals and four assists. Owen Hiltz chipped in three goals and two assists for the Orange in the win.
Syracuse improves to 13-5, advancing to the NCAA semifinals to face the winner of Maryland/Georgetown next Saturday. That game will be played at Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
