SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A new magazine from the non-profit, 'Dominican Cultural and Sports Center' in Springfield is shining light on the Dominican community in the city.
This is the first magazine that the organization has released. It serves as a platform to celebrate the rich culture and heritage of the Dominican community.
With a population of over 7,000, the Dominican community is a growing part of Springfield. The magazine, called 'Maass Quisqueyana' features important events and celebrations that they participated in throughout the year. Creators of the magazine say it's a valuable resource for both those part of the community and those looking to learn more about it.
Joezfina Areas told 22News, 'I would say that this is a project more than paper or just design is a platform for the community, Dominican community, and we can amplify our work that we are. So what we do is sensitive all that we can express as a culture.'
They hope to publish a new edition of the magazine every year. You can pick up a copy of the first edition for free at their office location on 20 Fort Street in Springfield.
