UFC Fight Night 253 loses another bout due to lack of medical clearance
LAS VEGAS – UFC Fight Night 253 is down another fight.
The preliminary card matchup between John Castaneda and Douglas Silva de Andrade is off, the promotion announced Friday. The bout initially was scheduled for bantamweight, then shifted to a 140-pound catchweight. Both fighters hit their marks during Friday's weigh-in window, but did not participate in ceremonial faceoffs.
Promotion officials told MMA Junkie on Friday the reason for the cancellation was Silva de Andrade (29-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) not receiving medical clearance for the fight vs. Castaneda (21-7 MMA, 4-3 UFC).
Neither fighter has publicly commented on the cancellation.
The cancellation came less than two hours after another prelim was called off due to weight management issues with Luana Carolina, who was supposed to fight Montana De La Rosa in a women's flyweight bout.
The card will move forward with 10 fights total.
