80 mph winds reported in area where small moving trailers crashed on Jefferson County Highway
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) – Strong winds caused chaos for some drivers in Jefferson County on Thursday.
Three small trailers went flying off Highway 93, which had to be shut down for a while. At times, the wind gusts reportedly reached 80 miles an hour near Rocky Flats along Colorado 93 north of Golden.

Warnings went up both on signs along the roadway and on the Colorado Department of Transportation's CoTrip site.
One of the toppled trailers belonged to John Cordova, who was pulling it behind his truck when a blast of air came roaring through.
'The next thing you know, the back end of the truck came up about two feet, and the trailer moved to one side, and all of a sudden the trailer became unhitched, and we lost the trailer,' Cordova said.
Cordova's trailer was full of yard equipment and went off to the side of the road.
Raymond Marquardt was in the passenger seat.
'What I thought was going to be just a lovely day turned into kind of a nightmare. I didn't expect the winds to be this bad today,' Marquardt said.
Denver air traffic control briefly lost communication Monday
Traffic was backed up near another trailer that was turned on its side, also along Colorado 93.
Part of the road was shut down temporarily near the Table Rock Ridge neighborhood, which some people call Windy Acres.
Thursday was no exception.
'It was howling all over the place like blowing stuff through the yards and everything,' resident Darrin LeBlanc said.
The trailer appeared to have a golf cart inside that was heavily damaged.
'It's just nerve-wracking. Unsettling,' resident Kelly Kenyon said.

Back where John Cordova's trailer crashed, a tow truck was able to get it back on its wheels.
For Cordova, this was a close call and a reminder that Colorado weather is always full of surprises.
Colorado State Patrol told FOX31 that roads are closed due to safety and harsh conditions, after a joint decision was made with CDOT and local agencies.
Highway 93 remained open for most of the day.
