Saks Fifth Avenue to Close Store in San Francisco's Union Square
Luxury department chain Saks Fifth Avenue confirmed April 25 that it will close its Union Square location in San Francisco next month, making it the latest to leave the historic shopping district. The outlet will lock the doors at the corner of Post and Powell streets for a final time on May 10 after nearly 30 years. It 'While we saw meaningful engagement and success through the appointment-only format, we have made this decision as part of our integration process as we focus on long-term growth,' a Saks Global spokesperson told The Epoch Times on Friday in an email. 'While the closing of Saks marks the end of an era, this was not an unforeseen development considering their recent changes to an appointment-only model, and Neiman Marcus acquisition,' alliance spokesman Will Reisman told The Epoch Times in an email Friday. 'We expect the path to downtown revitalization to have its twists and turns—still we are extremely optimistic about the future of Union Square.' John Varvatos to return to New York's SoHo district
is returning to SoHo with a new store opening on September 10, coinciding with the the 25th anniversary of the luxury fashion brand. Located at 73 Wooster Street, the new John Varvatos SoHo store spans 3,200 square feet, and will showcase the American brand's ready-to-wear collections, including leather and tailored clothing, accessories, footwear, and fragrance, as well as a special anniversary collection entitled, 'A Love Letter". Inside the store, which features 13-foot high ceilings, interior elements will include antique rolling racks found in Paris flea markets alongside vintage and custom-designed furniture in leather, wood and steel. The store's wooden floors will be covered with Persian rugs, set against white walls lending the space a "masculine elegance" that is synonymous with the John Varvatos brand. Meanwhile, the store's fixtures and displays are designed to shift and change formation, made up of large cast-iron and wooden tables, and found iron hang rails to present the brand's garments. Finally, movable bronze brick-pattern screens allow the store's interior to be tailored to different layouts and collections. In addition to the brand's latest collections, artwork will be on display and will be available for sale, curated by Morrison Hotel Gallery, a leader in fine art music photography. "Known for its specialty shops and downtown attitude, Soho plays host to a vast array of upscale fashion boutiques, restaurants and galleries, all of which contribute to the ideal environment for the latest John Varvatos location," said the brand in a press release. The store opening comes some 25 years after the brand opened its doors in the SoHo region in the year 2000. Earlier this year, global fashion brand Urban Revivo made its U.S. retail debut with the opening of its first American store in the heart of SoHo, at 515 Broadway.
