Debuted With 4 Superstars, Gave 11 Flops, Yet THIS Bollywood Actor's Net Worth Is Rs 40 Cr
Last Updated: With more than 11 flops in a 17-year career, he became one of Bollywood's most unsuccessful leading men. Yet, this hasn't dented his financial standing. Many Bollywood actors begin as child artists, but few manage to sustain their stardom. Neil Nitin Mukesh, born into a family of musical legends, is one such name. Despite a star-studded debut and backing from a powerful film lineage, he struggled to make a mark as a leading man. Still, his earnings and lifestyle today remain enviable. Neil was born to veteran playback singer Nitin Mukesh and is the grandson of the iconic singer Mukesh. His first brush with the big screen came in 1988 as a child actor in Vijay, where he shared scenes with Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Hema Malini – a dream debut few can boast of. Years later, in 2007, Neil made his official Bollywood debut as a lead in Johnny Gaddaar. Though critically appreciated, the thriller failed commercially, collecting only Rs 5.68 crore. It marked the beginning of a series of box office disappointments. Over the next decade, Neil starred in films like Aa Dekhen Zara, Jail, Lafangey Parindey, 7 Khoon Maaf, and David. However, none helped cement his position as a bankable actor. Even roles in multi-starrers and big productions failed to boost his standing. His 2023 comeback attempt with Hisaab Barabar, opposite R. Madhavan, too went unnoticed. With more than 11 flops in a 17-year career, Neil became one of Bollywood's most unsuccessful leading men. Yet, this hasn't dented his financial standing. Stepping back from the mainstream industry, he redirected his efforts into business and production. Today, Neil Nitin Mukesh enjoys a net worth estimated at Rs 40 crore. He owns several high-end cars, premium watches, and luxurious properties. His production company and endorsements continue to generate impressive income, proving that he has successfully reinvented himself away from the spotlight. Neil married Rukmini Sahay in 2017, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Nurvi, in 2018. While he stays largely out of the public eye, Neil often shares glimpses of his personal life on social media, giving fans a peek into his family's glamorous yet grounded world. Neil Nitin Mukesh says 'everyone doubted me' during film debut: 'Never thought anyone would give me work'
It was in 2007 that Neil Nitin Mukesh entered the film industry with Johnny Gaddaar, a rather unconventional pulp thriller. Eighteen years later, the actor has another first - his OTT debut with the JioHotstar show Hai Junoon. As the show releases, Neil sits down with HT to talk about his two debuts, how streaming works, and more. (Also read: Neil Nitin Mukesh reveals Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na was offered to him: 'Was asked to choose between this and Johnny Gaddaar') Hai Junoon is a show about a dance group that challenges the hegemony of its college's prestigious singing choir. The Step Up-like series stars Neil as the mentor of the choir, a famous musician named Gagan Ahuja. Talking about what prompted him to take up the show, he says, "During the peak of COVID, I started getting a gazillion offers, but all about guns and roses with thorns. I wanted to find something a clutter-breaker. Just like when I was making my film debut, I chose Johnny Gaddaar because it was different from the norm of love stories back then. I wanted to stand out by choosing something unique. So, when this show came, I was wowed." Hai Junoon is an ensemble show, with Jacqueline Fernandez alongside Neil, as well as a dozen other younger stars. "I know this show is not just about me," says Neil matter-of-factly, adding, "There are shows that are principally about that one person or central character. I have never chosen stories and characters based on my screen time or whether I am the hero or not. What is my role, what am I doing in it, and whether me being there takes the story forward - these are things I have based my decisions on." Neil says he is secure in himself, which is what allows him to choose such roles and projects. Ask him where the security comes from, and he says, 'struggle'. The actor elaborates, "I never thought anybody would give me work. It's not as if I haven't struggled. I came into an industry where my grandfather and father were already household names, so the comparisons are more, and the pressure high. Thankfully, I wanted to become an actor. But still, there was so much weight on my shoulders. Everyone was doubting me." But Johnny Gaddaar was a big success, both critically and commercially, paving the way for hits like New York, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and Golmaal Again. Now, the actor hopes to carry forward that same form in streaming. "The platform does not matter, to be honest. The story does. Yes, this 20-episode arc allows your character more time. That makes an actor more secure in their work. You know if you are there at the end of 20 episodes, you will get a chance to show what you are." Hai Junoon is currently streaming on JioHotstar.

Neil Nitin Mukesh reveals Imran Khan starrer 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' was first offered to him: 'Was asked to choose between this and Johnny Gaddaar'
Neil Nitin Mukesh recently revealed that he was also offered Imran Khan starrer ' Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ', around the same time — and had to pick between the two contrasting scripts for his launch. Choosing Between Romance and a Thriller In conversation with Just Too Filmy, Neil revealed that he was offered Johnny Gaddaar and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na on the same day by producer Jhamu Sughand. While Jaane Tu... fit the popular trend of romantic college dramas, Neil was hesitant to embrace the 'chocolate boy' image that people often associated with him. Uncomfortable with the label, he leaned toward a more unconventional and intense role, which ultimately led him to choose Johnny Gaddaar for his debut. No Grand Launch, Only Tough Choices The actor also recalled that after meeting producer Jhamu Sughand at a party, he was invited to his office, where he was offered two films—but with a catch. He would have to audition for both and choose only one. At the time, Neil admitted feeling unsure, especially since actors like Ranbir Kapoor and Harman Baweja were set to debut in big-banner films like Saawariya and Love Story 2050. He questioned whether his debut would stand a chance against such high-profile launches. Despite the pressure, Neil auditioned for both roles, but ultimately went with his gut and chose Johnny Gaddaar. 'Jaane Tu… Was Always Imran's Film' He further shared that Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na was always meant to be Imran Khan's film, and he felt privileged just to be considered for it. He clarified that he never rejected the film, but simply wasn't able to take it up due to circumstances. Had he been given the chance to work on both projects, he said he would have given his all to each—but ultimately, he couldn't be part of Jaane Tu. A Star Kid Without a Starry Launch In the same interview, Neil also revealed that despite coming from a celebrated musical lineage—being the son of Nitin Mukesh and grandson of legendary singer Mukesh—he was made aware early on that a grand Bollywood launch wasn't in store for him. At just 13, his father told him clearly that the family's financial priorities lay elsewhere and that he wouldn't be able to invest in launching Neil's film career. The conversation left a young Neil deeply unsettled, marking a turning point in his understanding of the challenges ahead. Neil Nitin Mukesh says being in the industry can get toxic: 'You are happier for someone's failure than success'
Neil Nitin Mukesh made his debut with ' Johnny Gaddaar ' and was absolutely loved by people. However, one has not seen him in many movies in recent times. The actor has admitted that the industry is a difficult place and while he thought he would keep getting great offers, that wasn't the case. In a recent interview, the actor admitted how difficult it is to survive here and also reveals it can get a little toxic. The actor said in an interview with Screen, "At the beginning of my career, someone had told me to never wish to take a break, because then a time will come where you will keep hunting for work. Operation Sindoor 'Decided to strike where it would hurt': Air Marshal on Op Sindoor Op Sindoor: IC-814 hijackers, Pulwama plotters among over 100 terrorists killed 'Pak Army lost 35 to 40 personnel': Takeaways from armed forces' briefing on Op Sindoor I got so scared with that statement. My first film, Johnny Gaddar, got stuck. Sometimes you don't realize that your break is self-doubt, which you have not put in yourself; others have put it in you. People say things like you won't be able to do this. It is the one thing you will constantly keep hearing, and I have heard it so many times. Any time there is a lull, people will say he is over. But who are they to decide? I am still here, still working, trying to feed my family.' He added, "It does happen, and it happens to a point where it gets toxic. I have seen that a lot, and I still see that a lot. I don't like that conversation. For me, an industry is like my family, at least I used to feel that. If I work or I am hoping to work with somebody, aren't we all a part of the same fraternity? Isn't it our job to call up each other and laud the work? But those phones never come, unless the person is extremely close to you. On your face, nobody will say that.' Neil also recalled a really harsh comment by a film critic on social media and how the industry backed him that time. He said, "Once very long ago on Twitter, one of my films was coming, and a very reputed critic then wrote in his opening sentence that he wondered how someone was paying Neil Nitin Mukesh even now for a job. I responded to him that I didn't need his validation to work hard, prove myself, and provide for my family. My entire industry stood by me back then. But that day I lost it with those self-proclaimed critics and understood that the voice everyone has gotten with social media has changed.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here - This Might Save You From Losing Money Expertinspector Click Here Undo But here's what has kept Neil going and not get discouraged. He added, "Here we celebrate when a film doesn't work on a Friday. You are happier for someone's failure than for someone's success. When you are around that atmosphere, the only way forward is to have that passion and self-belief. I believe we should keep trying, even if it doesn't work out. Then there won't be any regrets.'
