Man's familicide charges moved to Muar High Court
MUAR: The charges against a man who allegedly burned and killed three of his family members — including his parents — last August has been transferred to the Muar High Court.
Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar said this during a proceeding to transfer the case from the magistrate's court to the High Court, today.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Amieerah Alludeen told the court that the Johor Prosecution Unit had consented to the case transfer.
However, the High Court will set a date for the first mention proceedings later.
Previously, Azman Mohamed Nor, 48, faced three charges as he arrived to court in a wheelchair due to health issues.
His family members were also present for the proceedings.
Azman is currently serving a nine-year sentence and a fine of RM5,000 for hurting another relative.
According to the three charges, he was accused of murdering his father Mohamed Nor Mohamed Yassin, 82; his mother, Ara Abd Hamid, 76; and his niece Noradriana Nor Hasyim, 11.
The three incidents allegedly occurred between 1am to 3am at a house along Jalan Sekolah Kampung Paya Redan on Aug 9, last year.
The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code. which carries a death sentence or 40 years of imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
Azman's parents were found burnt to death in the ancestral home, while Noradriana died due to severe facial injuries from being hit with a hard object.
Their deaths, initially investigated as sudden deaths, were eventually classified as a murders following the discovery of certain injuries on them.
