Members of the Ministerial Committee Assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in Gaza held an expanded meeting in Madrid, the capital of Spain.
The meeting was chaired by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League; His Excellency Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation; and Dr. Nuh Yılmaz, Deputy Foreign Minister of Türkiye, including the Madrid Group and a number of European countries.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as international efforts to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming high-level international conference on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City in June. The conference will be co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic.
The committee members underscored the importance of joint cooperation to ensure the success of the high-level international conference, stressing the need for clear commitments and tangible political, economic, and security support.
They reaffirmed the importance of implementing the two-state solution based on relevant international resolutions, ensuring the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The committee also commended the efforts of the Madrid Group and European nations in supporting the pursuit of a just and lasting peace.
The members expressed hope for the success of the Qatari-Egyptian-American mediation efforts to secure the release of hostages. They emphasized the urgent need to end the blockade on the Gaza Strip, to open all crossings immediately and unconditionally, and to ensure the continuous delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to meet the needs of the population.
The members of the Ministerial Committee reaffirmed their condemnation of the repeated violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against civilians in the Gaza Strip. They also stressed the importance of confronting all Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
