7 Highlights From Lady Gaga's Jam-Packed Saturday Night Live Episode

Lady Gaga has received a wave of praise after serving double duty on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, as both host and musical guest. The Abracadabra singer has appeared on SNL as guest host and musical performer on numerous occasions in the last 15 years (more on that in a second), but Saturday marked her first time occupying both slots, following in the footsteps of Charli XCX and Timothée Chalamet, who also juggled both roles recently. Here's a selection of highlights and other stand-out moments from Gaga's big night at SNL… Talk about doing the most with a limited amount of space. Seriously, the above video is a must-watch for even the most casual of Lady Gaga fans, encompassing everything we love about her as a live performer. Although she was there to promote her new album, Gaga couldn't resist poking fun at the scathing reviews her last film Joker: Folie À Deux received towards the end of last year. 'Apparently, people thought it was awesome,' she quipped, before addressing the fact that she and co-star Joaquin Phoenix had just won the Golden Raspberry Award in the Worst On-Screen Duo category. 'The joke's on them. I love winning things!' Gaga said. 'My Razzie brings me one step closer to an EGORT. It's like an EGOT, but it's hurtful.' She ended the segment by vowing to 'sing', 'dance' and 'not do Joker 3'. While reflecting on her past appearances on SNL, she revealed that last time she hosted, she was joined during one performance by R Kelly, who is currently serving a 31-year combined sentence for multiple charges involving child sexual abuse, trafficking and racketeering. She explained: 'I'm so happy to be back at SNL. The last time I hosted was in 2013. And every aspect of my performance aged amazingly. 'Because there's no need to Google 'SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R Kelly.' I won't bring it up!' Lady Gaga jokes about her 2013 SNL performance with R. Kelly during her opening monologue tonight:'Last time I hosted was in 2013 and every aspect of my performance aged amazingly. So there's no need to Google 'SNL 2013 Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly'… we all won't.' — Pop Base (@PopBase) March 9, 2025 In 2019, following the release of the documentary Surviving R Kelly, Gaga pulled their duet Do What U Want from streaming services, and apologised for having collaborated with him on the song six years prior. She wrote at the time: 'I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously. 'What I am hearing about the allegations against R Kelly is absolutely horrifying and indefensible. As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and video [the latter of which was never released] at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn't processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called Do What U Want (With My Body), I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time. 'If I could go back and have a talk with my younger self I'd tell her to go through the therapy I have since then, so that I could understand the confused post-traumatic state that I was in or if therapy was not available to me or anyone in my situation – to seek help, and speak as openly and honestly as possible about what we've been through.' She added: 'I can't go back, but I can go forward and continue to support women, men, and people of all sexual identities, and of all races, who are victims of sexual assault. I have demonstrated my stance on this issue and others many times throughout my career.' Gaga concluded: 'I'm sorry, both for my poor judgment when I was young, and for not speaking out sooner.' I stand by anyone who has ever been the victim of sexual assault: — Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) January 10, 2019 'It never runs,' Chloe Fineman said of the fictional mascara, to which Heidi Gardner responded: 'But sometimes, don't you kind of want it to?' 'You know… for the attention,' Gaga then added, in one of the episode's most note-perfect deliveries. The fact that Gaga herself is now a makeup mogul as the founder of Haus Labs just adds to the fun. We can only imagine how excited Gaga superfan and SNL cast member Bowen Yang will have been to get to do this 'performance' with the pop icon. In this skit, the pair played a wealthy couple on a date who perform an impromptu duet of Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight, only for things to take an increasingly chaotic turn as each verse continues. In the latest in SNL's 'Midnight Matinee' movie parodies, Gaga plays a high school student in Pip, about a Stuart Little-esque mouse who tries to win a weight lifting tournament to prove himself to his classmates. Watch till the end, as we promise this is a much more shocking – and, indeed, blood-spattered – ending than whatever you imagined. So, while one of Gaga's performances saw her using her imagination to make the most of an enclosed space, the other took a very different approach. While performing Mayhem cut Killah, Gaga and her dancers kicked things off in the SNL corridors, wandering around the studio and delivering some impressive choreo around the NBC building, before finally making it onto the show's main stage. Gaga has always been known for her 'more is more' approach, and that was certainly the case with this rendition of Killah, which encompasses dancing, a drum solo and even an unexpected costume change. Killah, indeed! Amazing. Lady Gaga Reveals This Romantic Conversation With Her Fiancé Inspired Stand-Out Mayhem Track

Lady Gaga has made no secret of the fact she's feeling pretty loved-up right now, following her engagement to entrepreneur Michael Polansky last year. In fact, Gaga has even revealed it was her fiancé who encouraged her to throw herself back into pop music with both feet, and he's even credited as the executive producer of her new album, Mayhem, which was released on Friday morning. One Mayhem cut, Blade Of Grass, is inspired by the Grammy winner's new relationship, and she recently opened up to USA Today about how a conversation with her husband-to-be inspired the song. 'We started working on that song after we got engaged,' she explained. 'A long time ago, we were in the backyard and he said, 'If I ever propose to you, what should I do?'. I said, 'You can just wrap a blade of grass around my finger and I'll say yes'.' On the finished song, Gaga can be heard singing: 'Come on and wrap that blade of grass, around my finger like a cast. 'Cause even though the church burned down, I'll be your queen without a crown. 'I've been so lonely in this field, fightin' a battle with no shield. Come on and wrap that blade of grass, and we'll make it last.' The Oscar winner added: 'It's a love song between the two of us, but sometimes when we find love in our lives, it can also help us reflect on what it took to get there. 'Standing in my backyard, looking out at the ocean, I was thinking about all the people I've left behind or lost along the way. It was this incredibly happy moment and also bittersweet, which is why that record is haunting and beautiful.' Gaga told British Vogue last year, around the release of her film Joker: Folie À Deux: 'Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record. He was like, 'Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music'.' He also told the outlet: 'Like anyone would do for the person they love, I encouraged her to lean in to the joy of it. 'On the Chromatica tour, I saw a fire in her; I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.' So far, Mayhem has received near-unanimous praise from critics, and has been hailed as a return to her musical roots, harking back to sounds first used on her albums The Fame and Born This Way. It was preceded by the singles Disease, Abracadabra and the Bruno Mars collaboration Die With A Smile, all of which reached the top 10 here in the UK. Meryl Streep's Nephew Shares Harrowing Story Of Actor's Narrow Escape From LA Wildfires

Meryl Streep wasn't going to let a fallen tree thwart her escape from the California wildfires. The three-time Oscar winner was among dozens of thousands of residents placed under mandatory evacuation orders in Southern California earlier this month, and apparently proved to be just as capable and resilient offscreen as she is in her biggest movies. 'My aunt Meryl Streep received an order to evacuate on January 8, but when she tried to leave, she discovered that a large tree had fallen over in her driveway, blocking her only exit,' Abe Streep wrote in a New York Magazine article published Tuesday. 'Determined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbor, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbors on the other side, and drove through their yard to escape,' the New Mexico-based writer continued. The wildfires across the Los Angeles metropolitan area broke out one day before Streep made her escape, and while the Eaton and Palisades fires are now almost fully contained, they've become the most destructive in Los Angeles history. Over 57,000 acres and 16,000 properties have been destroyed since Jan. 7, per CalFire. Streep was one of many celebrities to flee the area — some of them even helped first responders evacuate effected neighborhoods. Her 'Only Murders in the Building' co-star Martin Short was among those who escaped, and he still recalls a harrowing 1993 fire. Short told Abe Streep that he watched a major wildfire at the time approach his Pacific Palisades home after it had already destroyed hundreds of properties in Malibu. It was eventually contained, however. He again spotted flames from his balcony earlier this month. Short ultimately fled after one of his sons told him to, but driving a distance that usually takes five minutes took more than an hour. Short found his home intact when he returned after some of the evacuation orders were lifted, but implied things will never be the same. 'Right away I knew this is where I wanted to live. You're five minutes from the ocean or five minutes from the greatest hiking in the mountains imaginable,' he told Abe Streep, adding that the Palisades used to feel safe: 'There was only one way in and one way out.' The LA Medical Examiner's Office said Monday that 29 people have died in the wildfires. Lady Gaga Confirms Details Of Her Long-Awaited New Album, And It Sounds Like Total Mayhem

After teasing fans for the last week, it looks like Lady Gaga is finally letting us know when to expect her long-awaited seventh album. Over the last seven days, Gaga has been updating her website to include a countdown to Monday afternoon. Each day since then, she's also featured a subtle homage to her previous albums, beginning with her breakthrough The Fame and leading right through to her Joker: Folie À Deux companion record Harlequin, which came out last year. With the countdown now up, the Grammy-winning pop superstar has now confirmed what some of her more zealous fans worked out days ago – her new album Mayhem will be released on 7 March. Song titles teased in an Instagram post about the new release included "Abracadabra", "Vanish Into You" and "Shadow Of A Man". Mayhem also appears to contain songs titled "Blade Of Grass", "Garden Of Eden", "Perfect Celebrity", "Zombieboy", and "Killah". The album's release was previously teased in billboards that popped up in her hometown of New York on Monday. 🚨 Billboard spotted for Lady Gaga's seventh studio album, 'Mayhem.' — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) January 27, 2025 L∀DY GAGA MAYHEM BILLBOARD IN NYC MAYHEM OUT — MARCH 7 — Gaga Crave 🌷 (@AMENARTPOP) January 27, 2025 Mayhem was trailed by the lead single "Disease", which peaked within the UK top 10 following its release last year. Over the summer, Gaga also had huge success with the Bruno Mars collaboration "Die With A Smile", which Gaga told the Los Angeles Times will also be featured on Mayhem. 'It's a huge part of my album. It was like this missing piece,' she claimed. Gaga also teased: 'The record is full of my love of music – so many different genres, so many different styles, so many different dreams. It leaps around genre in a way that's almost corrupt. 'And it ends with love. That's the answer to all the chaos in my life is that I find peace with love.' 'Every song that I wrote, I just kept getting kind of swept away in these different dreams I was having about the past — almost like a recollection of all these bad decisions that I made in my life,' she added. 'But it ends in this very happy place.' Mayhem will be Gaga's first full-length album since 2020's Chromatica, besides the aforementioned Joker-inspired Harlequin, mostly made up of covers featured in the film. It's also Gaga's first album since .
