Man in Miri jailed five months, friend fined RM2,500 for possessing meth

MIRI (June 19): The Magistrates' Court here today sentenced a man to prison and imposed a fine on his friend after they both pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing illicit drugs.
Jolhi Zaini and Mohamad Sobree Julaihi, both 40, entered the plea before Magistrate Ashok Linggam after the charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, was read to them.
Mohamad Sobree was sentenced to five months in jail while Jolhi was fined RM2,500 in default three months' imprisonment.
According to the facts of the case, they were found in possession of 0.10g of methamphetamine while inside a blue car parked in front of a bank at Jalan Bendahara here at about 2.30pm on April 2 this year.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Sobree pleaded guilty in the same court to a separate charge of abusing drugs, and was ordered to perform community service for four hours a day over a period of four months.
The court also ordered him to be placed under police supervision for a period of two years.
He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
Based on the facts of the case, he was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at around 10.40am on April 3 this year.
