Newcastle United legend BUSKING with guitar in city centre - 'My home'
Former Newcastle United star Jonas Gutierrez has been filmed busking in the city centre almost ten years after he left the club. Gutierrez spent seven years at Newcastle and memorably scored the goal which kept them in the Premier League during his final season. The winger scored the winner as Newcastle beat West Ham on the final day of the season in May 2015 to stay, with the Magpies finishing just four points above the bottom three. However, that game proved to be his last one for the club as he was released over the summer. Gutierrez went on to have spells with the likes of Deportivo La Coruna, Defensa y Justicia, Independiente and Banfield before announcing his retirement from football in 2021. The 41-year-old has maintained a strong connection with Newcastle fans after leaving the club and he recently returned to the city, with Gutierrez sharing a video on his Instagram account of him playing the guitar and singing near Grey's Monument in the city centre. "My City , my home," Gutierrez wrote as the caption. "I Am a geordie I Love this City I Love this people. Thanks for everthing @nufc a dream come true playing guitar at the monument." And Newcastle fans were delighted to see him back in the city, with one responding: "Once a geordie, always a geordie". A second added: "Nearly 10 years ago since that goal against West Ham. Never forget." A third wrote: "Never have I seen a player from any club adopt a city as their home as Jonas has with Newcastle. What player comes back years after playing for a club, to come back and sit in the middle of the city centre and play the guitar? What a guy". Reflecting on his time at Newcastle in 2019, Gutierrez said joining the club from Mallorca in 2008 was the "best decision" of his life. "As a young boy, I used to get up early to watch English football, and it was my dream to play for one of those teams," he told Planet Football. "I knew Newcastle because of the film 'Goal!' with Santiago Munez, and also because of Daniel Cordone and Christian Bassedas, who were playing there and had been at my team in Argentina, Valez Sarsfield. Instagram "I had the opportunity to move to Portsmouth the previous January, but Mallorca didn't want me to go. It was hard at the time because I loved the Premier League, but then I moved to Newcastle, and after what I did there, I have to say it was the best decision of my life. "Newcastle fans are different, you don't find this kind of support in many places. They make you stronger and send you their love. "It is not just the boys and the men, but the women and the grandmas. The city depends on football, it is so important. They are incredible."
