‘Vettes of the Smokies' car club visits Telford girl with leukemia
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Vettes of the Smokies car club gathered in Jonesborough on Saturday to ride together to visit a Telford girl battling leukemia. Mia is from Telford, but she has been in Memphis receiving treatment for her illness. Upon learning Mia was coming home to be with her family, her friends sprang into action on social media, asking any Corvette car clubs if they'd be willing to drive by her home, as Corvettes are Mia's favorite car. Greeneville native and car club member Andy Seaton said he was elated to participate in bringing Mia some joy. 'One little voice inside your head says do the right thing,' he said. 'And I can't say no. You do what you can to make your child smile.' Seaton told News Channel 11 that he hopes the club's 'parade' past Mia's house makes her time being home special. 'I just hope it gives her something to remember for the rest of her time here on Earth,' he said. 'You know, hopefully it's longer than they think, but at least we give her a moment of pleasure.' Thursday Preps: Crockett softball and Indians baseball claim district championships
Washington Co. TN — Even though teams had locked in a spot in the upcoming regional tournament, who would be declared district champions was decided in Thursday night softball and soccer title games. In Jonesborough, top seed David Crockett needed to beat Unicoi County twice in the Class 3-A playoffs to win, and they did just that behind the pitching and hitting from Madelyn Dulaney as the Lady Pioneers won the championship with scores of 6-0 and 4-2. Advertisement On the pitch at the Steve Spurrier field, neighboring rivals Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill could not decide the game in regular time they had to go to penalty kicks, and the Indians would prevail and win 0-0 (4-3). D-B will host Jefferson County in the regional semifinals, while Science Hill travels to Sevier County. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
