Projecting OLB Jordan Burch's rookie role in 2025 for Arizona Cardinals
Projecting OLB Jordan Burch's rookie role in 2025 for Arizona Cardinals The Cardinals' third-round pick, Jordan Burch, hopefully can be a rotational pass rusher. The Arizona Cardinals selected seven players in the 2025 NFL draft. Their third-round pick, EDGE Jordan Burch, was selected 78th overall. What role could he play for the team as a rookie? We will look at each draft pick and make projections for what role each can viably expect for them in 2025. What is the case for Burch? Expected role for Arizona Cardinals OLB Jordan Burch The Cardinals improved their outside linebacker room this offseason. They signed Josh Sweat and brought back Baron Browning. BJ Ojulari is coming back from missing all last season with a torn ACL and they still have Zaven Collins, who has started all 34 games the last two seasons. So Burch will be OLB No. 5, much like Xavier Thomas was as a rookie last season. Will he play? Perhaps some, but he will have to play on special teams. He perhaps will not always be active on game days. If he can be a part of the defensive rotation, that is a best-case scenario. Grading the Arizona Cardinals' pick of Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch in Round 3
Grading the Arizona Cardinals' pick of Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch in Round 3 While the name was a surprise, the pick was solid. The Arizona Cardinals added to their outside linebacker room on Friday, selecting Oregon EDGE Jordan Burch. It was their third consecutive defensive player drafted in three picks. He is big at 6-4 and 279 pounds. He had 8.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss and six tipped passes in 10 games in 2024. What grade do the Cardinals get for drafting him with the 78th pick in the draft? Arizona Cardinals draft grades: EDGE Jordan Burch In a deep edge rusher class, it was a good plan for the Cardinals to get one on Day 1 or Day 2. You have to wonder if Burch ended up being Plan B, as the Carolina Panthers traded up to the pick right before the Cardinals and selected Ole Miss EDGE Princely Umanmielen. But Burch has size and moves really well. He was very productive in 2024 on a good team in a major conference. In terms of the EDGE guys on the board, he was as good as the guys left on the board. Because of his size, he give some possible positional versatility to be able to slide inside a bit. So the question is whether or not there was a better prospect at a different position. With Iowa State receiver Jaylin Noel going with the very next pick, you wonder if he would have been a good fit. He had the speed and production, but the Cardinals have only added six-foot or taller receivers since 2023, so Noel, at 5-foot-10. So as third-round picks go, Burch is a good one. Grade: A-minus Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Subscribe on Spotify, YouTube or Apple podcasts.
