Duo's remarkable feat at annual York tournament

NOT one but two golfers who took part in an annual event scored a whole in one. Steve Shipley, representing Hentons, chartered accountants, and Jordan Ramnauth of Marshall Thompson Leadwork, were the successful golfers at York Vikings Rotary Club charity golf day at York Golf Club on Thursday (May 8), each scored a hole-in-one. Steve holed out with a pitching wedge on the par 3, 119-yard 11th hole, whilst Jordan used a hybrid to sink his 184-yard tee shot. Neil Holt, the York Vikings Rotary President, said: "Not only is this the first time this has happened on one of our golf days, but we also haven't been able to identify whether two holes in one have ever been scored at a charity golf day on the same day before. "York Vikings has raised approaching £250,000 over the years at York Golf Club. "It's our biggest annual fund-raising event and it helps us raise money for the many good causes which our Rotary Club supports." Both golfers were presented with a trophy by York Golf Club - a top ten course in Yorkshire - which it awards to all golfers who score a hole-in-one on the course. The tournament winners were Dean Construction, who have indicated that they intend to defend their title next year. York Vikings have already made arrangements to host next year's golf day at York Golf Club on Thursday, May 7 next year. Demand for this ever-popular event on the charity sporting calendar looks set to be higher than ever next year so any teams wishing to enter should move quickly and contact Andrew Lindsay at andrewlindsay1958@
