A Message to Trump

Dr. Mohamed Dabasha Member of the Egyptian Writers Union In a brief interview broadcast by international news agencies, US President Donald Trump asked Egypt and Jordan to host the people of Gaza for a short or long period until Israel finishes cleansing the Gaza Strip of Hamas. He confirmed in a later interview that Sisi and the King of Jordan will do this because he provides support to both countries, despite Egypt and Jordan's rejection of this request. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi confirmed that his country will not participate in any injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people and that the solution lies in the two-state solution to achieve security and peace for the Israeli and Palestinian people. He added that if this request is imposed and approved, the Egyptian people will rise up against it and the region will experience undesirable consequences. Sisi stressed during a press conference with his Kenyan counterpart that there will be no tolerance or permission to tamper with Egyptian national security in light of what is being said about the displacement of Palestinians. He added that Egypt is committed to its principles towards establishing a Palestinian state without neutrality or concessions. In a statement issued by the Jordanian Royal Court, King Abdullah stressed, during separate meetings held in Brussels with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Parliament President Roberta Mezzola, and European Council President Antonio Costa, Jordan and Egypt's position on the necessity of establishing the Palestinians on their land and obtaining their legitimate rights in accordance with the two-state solution and ending the injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people for more than 70 years. The Palestinian presidency also affirmed its categorical rejection of the displacement of the residents of Gaza and thanked Egypt and Jordan for their steadfast positions on the Palestinian cause. In the same context, the Arab League stressed that any attempts to uproot the Palestinian people from their land are rejected and violate international law. The most eloquent response to Trump's delusions was the return of the displaced residents of Gaza to the Strip despite the massive destruction they suffered as a result of the blatant Israeli aggression. For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that calls for Palestinians to leave for Egypt and Jordan are not something that can lead to peace. In this view, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced that US President Donald Trump's proposal to settle Gaza residents in Arab countries contradicts the concept of peaceful coexistence between two sovereign states, Israel and Palestine, which France calls for. Paris considered any forced displacement of Gaza Palestinians 'unacceptable.' In the same vein, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that US President Donald Trump's proposal to transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Jordan and Egypt is 'unacceptable.' He added at an election conference in Berlin: 'Any plans for resettlement, expelling Gaza citizens from there to Egypt or Jordan, are unacceptable.' He added that he supports the two-state solution, where Israelis and Palestinians live side by side. Side by side in peace". And not to dispel the fragile hope for peace that has now become possible,' referring to the recent ceasefire agreement, adding that 'peace will not be achieved unless the population feels that there is hope for a future in which they govern themselves.' Apart from the official response of all Arab and Islamic countries and every country that stands against this unreasonable Trumpian demand, I remind Trump, who has lost his legal awareness and who disregards international law, that the Arab people know very well that your country participates in every injustice that befalls the people of Palestine, Syria and Lebanon. If you believe that Arab presidents await Mama America's orders and implement them for fear of your brutality, then you are delusional and you must come to your senses. As for myself, and as a member of the Egyptian Writers Union, I reject calls to displace the residents of Gaza and I demand that the US Congress intervene and investigate Trump regarding what he announced about a plan to displace the residents of Gaza without taking into account the rights of the Palestinian people to live on all of their lands occupied in 1967. I also demand that legal men in Egypt and all countries of the world file a complaint with the International Court of Justice against this president. Even though I know that this is useless, and that the solution is in what he said The late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser said that what was taken by force can only be restored by force.

Leaders of Egypt, France and Jordan call Int'l community to push for end to Gaza war

CAIRO – 7 April 2025: Leaders of Egypt, France and Jordan called on the international community to push for an end to the Israeli war on Gaza, return to the ceasefire agreement, and ensure its implementation according to the Jordanian Royal Court. It added that President Abdel Fattah al Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron and King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed the need to resume the flow of sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza to alleviate the crisis facing the people of the Strip. The Jordanian Royal Court stated that the three leaders emphasized during their meeting in Cairo, the importance of a political process leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and achieving lasting peace in the region. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron received on Monday King Abdullah II of Jordan at Ittihadiya Palace. A tripartite Egyptian-Jordanian-French summit was held to discuss regional developments, including the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Earlier on Monday, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at Ittihadia Palace French President Emmanuel Macron, amid an official reception ceremony, where the national anthems of both countries were played. The two leaders held a bilateral meeting followed by a session of plenary talks between the two countries' delegations. They also witnessed the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries and held a press conference. During their speeches in the conference, both leaders rejected calls to displace Palestinians, and affirmed need to return to negotiations and respect ceasefire. 'We discussed the tragic situation in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need to restore the ceasefire,' Sisi said, explaining that they also discussed the Gaza Reconstruction Conference, which Egypt will be hosting following the cessation of hostilities within the Strip. President Sisi extended during the press conference, his thanks and appreciation to the French side for their support for the Palestinian people. Both leaders emphasized during their meeting the need to return to the ceasefire in Gaza and allow the entry of humanitarian aid. They also agreed to reject calls to displace Palestinians from their lands. Sisi confirmed that promoting peace in the Middle East will not be achieved without a just settlement for the Palestinian issue. Macron condemned in his speech at the press conference the resumption of Israeli strikes in Gaza and called for respecting the ceasefire, releasing of hostages in Gaza, and a return to negotiations as soon as possible. 'I would like to reiterate our support for the Gaza reconstruction plan, and that we will participate in the Gaza reconstruction conference,' Macron said.

Jordan's military says four drug smugglers killed on border with Syria

The Jordanian army said it killed four drug smugglers who tried to infiltrate the kingdom from Syria on Thursday, in the first such deaths on the border since the Assad regime was toppled in December and replaced with a new government seeking better ties with Amman. The four were part of a group that was intercepted as they tried to enter Jordan under the cover of bad weather and early morning fog, the army said. 'The clash resulted in the death of four smugglers and the retreat of the rest into the Syrian interior,' it said. It said 'large quantities' of narcotics were seized along with an automatic weapon, without giving specifics. The Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham posted its troops along parts of the 360km border with Jordan, a major conduit for the Captagon drug trade, after leading the removal of former president Bashar Al Assad on December 8. Days later, Jordan's Interior Minister Mazen Faraya said that the drug smuggling diminished as a result of the political changes in Syria. However, the authorities have since announced several interceptions of cross-border drug shipments. Last month, Jordan's King Abdullah II and Syria's new leader Ahmad Al Shara discussed the issue in Amman and agreed that the two governments should co-operate on tackling drugs and weapons smuggling, according to the Jordanian Royal Court. Jordan re-established limited ties with Mr Al Assad in recent years with the aim of resuming legal flows of goods and people under what officials called a step-for-step approach to solving problems emanating from Syria, and from the ousted regime's Iran-backed militia allies. But Jordan did not see enough co-operation from the Assad regime on drug smuggling and border security. Jordanian support for Mr Al Assad remained limited, especially in his wider goal of lifting western sanctions and obtaining funding for reconstruction projects in regime-controlled areas. Since Mr Al Assad's removal, Jordan has hosted an international conference on Syria and has said it is willing to help rebuild Syria and contribute to its stability as the nation recovers from nearly 14 years of civil war.
