American Heart Association hosts annual ‘Lobby Day' at State Capitol

(WLNS) – Advocates and survivors of heart disease, cardiac arrest and stroke will join caregivers, researchers and volunteers at the State Capitol Tuesday for the American Heart Association's annual Lobby Day event. For the first year, the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) is leading this event, which runs from Monday, March 31- Friday, April 4. Pita Way in DeWitt to host ‘Epilepsy Awareness Day' fundraiser

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – March 26 marks 'Purple Day,' also known as 'Epilepsy Awareness Day,' a global initiative to raise awareness about the condition and support people who deal with it daily. Epilepsy is the general term for a variety of neurological conditions characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. According to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, it's the fourth most common neurological disorder in the United States, and nearly 4% of Americans will develop it at some point in their lives. There's a fundraiser happening Wednesday at Pita Way in DeWitt – 13070 Old U.S. 27 – from 4 p.m.- 9 p.m. The restaurant will donate 20% of its sales to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. 6 News anchors Jorma Duran and Megan Viecelli talked with Emily Romblom to learn more about epilepsy and Wednesday's fundraiser. LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Wednesday marks 'Cancer Action Day,' so cancer survivors, patients and advocates from all over Michigan will gather at the Statehouse to share their message with lawmakers. They will support Governor Gretchen Whitmer's budget proposal to reduce tobacco use in Michigan. They will ask lawmakers to support copay accumulator legislation to ensure Michiganders receive the total value of prescription drug copay assistance to afford their treatments.
