Artists paying homage to JMW Turner at Guernsey exhibition
An art exhibition is to be held in Guernsey to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of painter Joseph Mallord William Pettitt, from Art for Guernsey, said the artwork to be displayed had taken inspiration from Turner's work and was a "stunning selection of works in woodcut, pencil, paint, etching and pastels". Turner was born in London on 23 April 1775 and was considered one of the greatest Romantic painters, famous for his landscapes and visited the Bailiwick in 1832 and used the island as inspiration for some of his artwork.
The exhibition will take place from 19 March to 21 June at the Art for Guernsey gallery in St Peter Port. It will feature works by Merlyn Chesterman, Damon Kowarsky, Charlie Mcfarley and Gideon all completed a residence in Guernsey to observe the locations where Turner work is currently featured at the Tate Britain gallery in London.
