Areas of Keswick where most crashes happen revealed in car crash hotspots map

CREATED by two road safety experts, CrashMap highlights the location of every collision on the roads in a given period. The detailed tool shows you not only the severity of the crash – slight, serious or fatal – but also when it took place, the number of vehicles involved and the number of casualties reported. In Keswick and surrounding areas, there were almost 70 vehicle crashes from 2019 to 2023. Crash Map data revealed that out of the total 66 reported crashes, 30 were in the Keswick town centre area. It was reported in November 2021 that the driver lost control and hit a tree during Storm Arwen. His girlfriend, Lana Maddison, who was 19, died, and Joseph Rowland was jailed for 10 months. The most common areas for serious crashes were on the A66 Keswick Bypass, the Crosthwaite Road junction and the B5289 near Hope Park. Penrith Road was the most common for crashes in the slight category. READ MORE: Off road bike seized after it was caught being used illegally in west Cumbria In May 2023, CrashMap data shows reports of a serious five-car pile-up on the A595 – there were two casualties. From 2019 to 2023, there were 4 reports of crashes which involved a child casualty, one was a serious incident. There were also six pedal cycle casualties, all of which were in the slight category. Across the five years, 8 reports involved young drivers, three were serious crashes, and one was fatal. You can view the interactive map and search for your area here.
