Five-Star OT, Oregon Target Announces Commitment on Tuesday
The Oregon Ducks are coming off one of their best seasons in the history of their football program. Their first year in the Big Ten Conference from the Pac-12, the Ducks asserted their dominance, going undefeated in the regular season and knocking off some of the Big 10's most storied programs. Advertisement Oregon's undefeated regular-season record carried into the Big Ten Championship, where it defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions. Five-Star Oregon target announces commitment Unfortunately, Oregon's season ended at Ohio State's hands after earning a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. That success carried into the NFL Draft, as the Ducks had a program record 10 players drafted. Among those drafted was offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr., who was selected No. 29 overall by the Washington Commanders. Head Coach Dan Lanning was likely in the market for a new offensive tackle and five-star recruit Jackson Cantwell looked to be the next great Ducks lineman. Advertisement The Ducks were finalists for the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2026 class, but Cantwell instead announced his commitment to the University of Miami and to become a Hurricane. The Hurricanes just enjoyed one of their better seasons in a while and watched as Cam Ward became the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Cantwell is 6-foot-7 325 pounds of pure force. The Nixa, Missouri, native will now join former Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal in Coral Gables. Cristobal was the head coach for Oregon from 2018-2021 before taking the job at Miami in 2022.

Josh Conerly Jr. got a prank call, too
To those who ask, 'wHy aREn'T yOu TaLKinG aBoUt oThER pLaYeRs wHo wERe pRaNk CaLleD?' We have, and we will. Commanders first-rounder Josh Conerly Jr., the 29th overall pick in round one, told 106.7 the Fan on Tuesday that he was on the wrong end of a Jerky Boys skit during the first night of the draft, 'I got one prank call,' Conerly said. 'It was somebody in Colorado acting like they were the Broncos. Mine wasn't as bad and as cruel as some of the other ones.' The Shedeur Sanders prank call has gotten the most attention, because Sanders has gotten more attention than any other player in the draft — and because the prank call happened when Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich allowed his son to see Sanders's number on an 'open iPad.' Colts tight end Tyler Warren also received a prank call, as did another player who was called roughly 30 minutes after he was drafted. He was told he'd been traded. While the Sanders prank traced to a team, other players could be pranked by folks who already have their numbers. That's why the best alternative could be to ditch phone calls and use FaceTime.

Josh Conerly Jr. says two key Commanders reached out after he was drafted
Josh Conerly Jr. says two key Commanders reached out after he was drafted Josh Conerly Jr. arrived in Washington on Friday, one day after the Commanders used their first-round selection on the Oregon offensive tackle. Conerly, alongside general manager Adam Peters, met with the media on Friday. Conerly described what was a whirlwind 18 hours, going from being drafted to being on a plane across the country with several of his family members. In the middle of those crazy 18 hours, Conerly received two calls from a pair of very important teammates. "I actually got a FaceTime from Laremy Tunsil last night and I missed it because the celebration was like right after," Conerly said. "But I also got to talk to Jayden Daniels, I don't know, what was that like 20 minutes ago maybe [laughs] and that was pretty cool. So, nice to get to meet him.' Daniels and his teammates returned to Ashburn this week for the start of the offseason program. Tunsil, acquired via a trade with Houston last month, will be Washington's left tackle next season, a position Conerly played at Oregon. Peters didn't reveal where Conerly would play in 2025, but he could also play guard if needed. It's expected that Conerly will play right tackle, while last year's left tackle, Brandon Coleman, will shift inside to guard.

Commanders take Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. with the 29th pick in the NFL draft
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Commanders selected Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. with the 29th pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, adding more protection for franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels in his second pro season and beyond. Audible cheers could be heard inside the team facility before the pick was announced in person at the draft in Green Bay. Taking Conerly upgrades the line in front of Daniels, who was sacked three times in the NFC title game loss to eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia. It also comes after the division-rival New York Giants selected edge rusher Abdul Carter with the third pick. Conerly, a 6-foot-5, 311-pounder from Seattle, started 14 games at left tackle for the Ducks as a junior last season. He was a third-team AP All-America selection and first-team all Big Ten. Conerly is expected to be moved to the right side after the Commanders acquired standout left tackle Laremy Tunsil in a trade with Houston last month and should compete for a starting spot. The Commanders went offensive line over help in the secondary, at linebacker or at defensive end. Sitting at 29 was the latest Washington has waited to make a draft pick since No. 44 in 2014, when the team did not have its first-rounder because of the trade to move up to select Robert Griffin III second in 2012. After trading for Tunsil and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, the Commanders have four picks the rest of the draft: one each in the second (61st), fourth (128th), sixth (205th) and seventh (245th) rounds.
