Kate Middleton's New 'Sunny Stroll' Photo Shows a Side of Her You Don't Often See

Photographer Josh Shinner shared a photo of Kate Middleton that he took during their April visit to the Isle of Mull in Scotland The snap was released earlier this month in connection to news that a rose had been named after the Princess of Wales In the striking portrait, Princess Kate poses in nature, which has been a source of solace amid her cancer treatment last yearKate Middleton posed for a portrait on a recent "sunny and leafy stroll," but instead of flashing her famous smile for the camera, she showed a different side to herself. On May 29, photographer Josh Shinner — who has gotten behind the camera on several occasions for the Princess of Wales' family before, including Prince Louis' recent 7th birthday portrait — shared a portrait of Kate on his Instagram page. "Excellent company for a sunny and leafy stroll… Thanks @princeandprincessofwales," he captioned the post. The striking shot was first released earlier this month in connection with the news that a rose had been named in Princess Kate's honor by the Royal Horticultural Society, and it was taken on the Isle of Mull during a recent visit. Kate and Prince William headed to the Scottish island at the end of April, and the Princess of Wales appeared in the photo wearing the same outfit she wore for their royal engagement of meeting the rangers at the Ardura Community Forest, who play a vital role in local conservation. The image shows the royal with her arms crossed, showing the engagement ring previously worn by Princess Diana, and staring directly at the camera. Instead of a full smile, Kate gave a slight smirk as she took in the outdoor setting. Princess Kate has long been an advocate of spending time outside, but her connection with nature took on a deeper meaning amid her cancer treatment last year. In her first health update after announcing her cancer diagnosis, she appeared in a photo that showed her leaning against a tree in a similar pose to Shinner's portrait. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith told PEOPLE of the snap, "There she is in nature, which has fortified her, and looking upward in a sign of real hope and encouragement for everybody." The Princess of Wales also chose to honor Mother Nature on the U.K.'s version of Mother's Day in March, sharing a video of various outdoor scenes. "Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary," Kate said in the caption of the Instagram post. "This Mother's Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognize how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life." Princess Kate and Prince William retreated from the public eye this week as their three children — Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — have a school vacation. Prince Louis birthday photo released as young royal turns 7

Prince Louis has shown off a gap-toothed grin in a photograph released to mark his seventh birthday. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared the portrait of their son on social media. The snap was taken in a woodland scene filled with bluebells while the family were in Norfolk last month. It was taken by the photographer Josh Shinner, who has shot the family several times before. He was behind the camera for their Christmas card in 2023. Louis, the youngest child of William and Kate, has been known for his cheeky outbursts at royal events, from pulling funny faces at the Trooping the Colour in 2023 to intentionally blowing out his sister Charlotte's candle at his mother's Christmas carol concert that year.
