Man booked in Tangipahoa Parish after alleged killing of parents
TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The man accused of killing his parents in the Amite area, and later arrested in California, has now been booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, 34-year-old Joshua Brocato is accused of shooting and killing his parents, Marc and Priscilla Brocato, on April 3. TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office shared additional information about the arrest of a man in connection with the death of an Amite-area couple. On Thursday, April 3, TPSO detectives launched an investigation after 66-year-old Priscilla Brocato was found dead inside a home on Eastwood Drive during a welfare check. TPSO officials said her husband, 75-year-old Marc Brocato, was later found dead on the property after being sought as a possible victim. Louisiana man suspected of killing his parents arrested in Los Angeles
A Louisiana man suspected of murdering his parents was arrested in Los Angeles last week, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials. While the arrest was made on Friday, authorities with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office believe that the killings happened days earlier. Los Angeles County deputies spotted a white Ford E-150 van that was parked in the 5400 block of Fairfax Avenue at around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, which they say matched the description of a vehicle involved in a Louisiana homicide. They arrested the lone occupant of the van, 34-year-old Joshua Brocato. He was allegedly found to be in possession of "body-armor and several loaded firearms including an assault rifle," according to LASD's press release. After he was taken into custody, deputies confirmed that he was the suspect sought in connection with the deadly shootings of Priscilla Brocato, 66, and Marc Brocato, 75, in southeastern Louisiana. They were found dead on Thursday, April 3 when Tangipahoa Parish deputies conducted a welfare check on a home on Eastwood Drive in the Amite City area of Louisiana, which is approximately an hour north of New Orleans. Priscilla was found dead inside of the home, while Marc was found dead on the couple's property. "Their son ... was unaccounted for and initially sought as a person of interest," said LASD's release. "Following autopsies of the couple, an arrest warrant for two counts of 1st Degree Murder was issued for Joshua Brocato by TPSO." Investigators believe that Brocato shot his parents on either Monday or Tuesday and then fled to California within three days of the shooting. "The reason for the crime is still unknown," deputies said. On top of TPSO's murder arrest warrant, Brocato was booked on suspicion of possessing a loaded unregistered firearm, possession of an assault rifle and altering or removal of a serial weapon on a firearm, the LASD release noted. He remains behind bars without bail at the Marina Del Rey Sheriff's Station and is pending court on Tuesday at LAX Municipal Courthouse. Heavily armed murder suspect arrested in West L.A., authorities say
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on Friday announced that Marina del Rey deputies had arrested a Louisiana man suspected in the double murder of his parents. Joshua Brocato, 34, was wanted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office on suspicion of fatally shooting his elderly parents, Priscilla and Marc Brocato, in their southeastern Louisiana town of Amite. Brocato was apprehended in Los Angeles a day after the Louisiana sheriff's office announced they were searching for him following a welfare check at his parents' home. Authorities say they found the bodies of his 66-year-old mother inside the house and his 75-year-old father on the property. Louisiana officials issued an arrest warrant for two counts of first-degree murder. The car "matched the description of a wanted homicide vehicle out of Louisiana," the department said. "During the course of the deputies' investigation, they discovered Suspect Brocato was in possession of body-armor and several loaded firearms including an assault rifle," the department said. Brocato likely fled to California within three days of the killings, the department said. Louisiana officials estimate Brocato's parents died either on March 31 or April 1. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office confirmed Brocato's arrest in Los Angeles in an updated news release on Facebook. "The reason for the crime is still unknown," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department news release said. While it's unclear why Brocato fled to California, the department said the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office had "alerted several law enforcement agencies in Southern California." Brocato was also booked on suspicion of multiple gun offenses, including possession of a loaded unregistered firearm and possession of an assault weapon, the sheriff's department said. Brocato was booked at the Marina del Rey station without bail and has a Tuesday court date, the department said. Los Angeles officials are working with Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office on transferring Brocato back to Louisiana, according to the news release.
