Covington police officer arrested on drunk driving charges
A Covington police officer was arrested early Sunday on charges he was driving under the influence after he was seen traveling over 100 mph on Interstate 275. Joshua Knott, 30, was clocked at 102 mph in his Dodge Ram just before 3 a.m. near Pride Parkway, according to court documents. A Kenton County police officer reported that he followed Knott onto Madison Pike where he saw Knott run a red light. The Kenton County officer said after he pulled Knott over, he noticed slurred and slow speech and other signs of inebriation. Knott told the officer he had consumed two beers, but also did not seem clear on what time of the night it was, court documents state. The officer conducted a field sobriety test and reported that Knott failed. The citation states Knott refused a breath test. Covington Capt. Justin Bradbury confirmed Knott's arrest to The Enquirer Sunday night. He said the department's command staff would meet to decide how to address this issue Monday. "Obviously, we are disappointed to learn of this incident," Bradbury said. In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol, Knott is charged with speeding and running a red light. He is scheduled to appear in Kenton County District Court on Thursday. This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Covington police officer arrested on drunk driving charges
