Nebraska baseball avoids sweep to Iowa after late-game surge to secure 6-4 victory
The Huskers (16-19, 5-9) concluded their three-game conference series with Iowa (22-11, 13-4) on Sunday afternoon. Nebraska avoided the sweep in the series finale, scoring three unanswered runs at the end to secure a 6-4 victory.
The Huskers capitalized on two Iowa errors in the eighth, taking a 5-4 lead after falling behind in the seventh. Nebraska added one more run in the ninth to hold on for the win.
The Huskers finished with seven hits on the day while suffering four errors and leaving seven runners on base. Iowa delivered eight hits against two errors but left 13 runners on base.
Tyler Stone, Joshua Overbeek and Dylan Carey all struck solo home runs in the win. Overbeek also finished with two hits, co-leading the Huskers in hits alongside Max Buettenback.
Casey Daiss (1-0) grabbed his first win of the season at the mound, pitching 1.1 innings for Nebraska. Daiss threw through the seventh and into the eighth, firing two strikeouts and allowing two hits, two walks and one run.
Luke Broderick secured his seventh save of the season, throwing the final 1.1 innings, shutting out the Hawkeyes and surrendering no hits.
Nebraska travels to Omaha on Tuesday night for its second showdown with in-state rival Creighton. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT on FS1.
