UFC Fight Night 254 video: Carlos Vera stuns heavy favorite Josias Musasa with wild finish
Josias Musasa was the biggest betting favorite entering his octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 254, but Carlos Vera had other plans. The bantamweight bout opened with heavy striking exchanges and both men looking to score a highlight. It was Vera (12-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) who delivered it, because he cracked Musasa (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a nasty right head kick that had him hurt. From there, he pounded on a rear-naked choke and forced the tap at the 3:16 mark of Round 1 inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out the replay of the wild final sequence below (via X): CARLOS VERA WITH A MAJOR UPSET 😳 #UFCVegas104 — ESPN MMA (@espnmma) March 15, 2025 After the fight, Vera was thrilled to get his hand raised under the UFC banner for the first time, and to do so by setting it up with his striking. "I had to show a little bit of striking arsenal," Vera said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. UFC Vegas 104: 3 fighters miss weight, including 1 egregious miss by debuting prospect
Three fighters missed weight at Friday's official UFC Vegas 104 weigh-ins, including a debuting fighter who missed weight by nearly five pounds — an egregious miss. The scale shenanigans mean a whopping 23% of Saturday's 13-fight card at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas may be contested with weight-related caveats. The morning's worst offender was Diyar Nurgozhay, an undefeated light heavyweight prospect making his promotional debut against Brendson Ribeiro on UFC Vegas 104 main card. Nurgozhay, a recent signee from UFC's Contender Series, announced his Octagon arrival by tipping the scales at 210.5 pounds for his 205-pound bout, 4.5 pounds over the division's legal limit for a non-title affair. Ribeiro weighed 205.5 pounds. Co-headliner Chidi Njokuani (172.25) and preliminary card prospect Josias Musasa (136.5) also missed weight by 1.25 pounds and .5 pounds, respectively, for their bouts against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Josias Musasa. The status of all three bouts is currently undetermined, though the trio of fighters who missed weight will likely be fined a percentage of their purses if the bouts move forward. Nurgozhay vs. Ribeiro may also be changed to a catchweight because of the severity of the miss, though it's also possible that the fight gets cancelled altogether. Middleweight headliners Marvin Vettori (186) and Roman Dolidze (186) both tipped in at the legal limit for their non-title rematch, rendering Saturday's main event official. Compete UFC Vegas 104 weigh-in results can be seen below. Uncrowned will update this story once the resolution of the three weight misses is made official.
