[Spoiler] Might Not Be Dead in Daredevil: Born Again After All—Inside the Twist That Would Change Everything

Daredevil is back and with his usual Hell's Kitchen crew—temporarily, at least. Matt Murdock makes his big return in Daredevil: Born Again and we see him happy with his associates Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. The crew is celebrating a police officer's anniversary at their usual pub Josie's. It's all lighthearted smiles and flirtatious banter among the group, but Foggy gets called to step out of the pub and onto the streets of Hell's Kitchen. All while doing so, Benjamin 'Dex' Poindexter is scouring the rooftops trying to plan the perfect revenge for his enemy Daredevil. It all happens so quickly, so we'll break it down for you below. More from StyleCaster Charlie Cox Tried to Blind Himself During Daredevil-It 'Got Really Old, Really Quick' Is [SPOILER] Really Dead In Venom: The Last Dance & What Does It Mean For the Future?Foggy died from a gunshot wound to the back of the chest. While he was taking a call from a frantic client who apologizes for selling him out to Bullseye, the foe takes aim at him from another rooftop with a sniper and shoots at the lawyer. Matt immediately hunts down his enemy using his heightened senses and has a showdown with him. Dressed as Daredevil and the show donning it's signature one shot scenes, he hears the fading heartbeat of his best friend and throws Bullseye off the roof. Bullseye survives thanks to his reinforced skeleton after he was paralyzed in season 3 of Daredevil. However, it takes a toll on Matt who moves to another law firm, and Karen, who moves all the way to the other coast of San Francisco. He also pushes for the maximum amount of punishment for Dex in court. 'The effort and conversation that went into that,' amongst everybody, 'was absolutely enormous,' Moorhead recalls, 'and we think that one of the reasons that people got behind it is they knew how serious what was happening during and at the end of that shot is. Making [Foggy's death] the end of one of Daredevil's legendary one-take fight scenes for us was a way to begin his eulogy.' Though, Marvel's Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum told Phase Hero that it won't be the last that we'll see Foggy and Karen. 'Without going into spoiler territory, I will say that both Deborah and Elden are coming back for Season 2,' the executive said of the actors. So will they follow the comic books and bring back Foggy? Bullseye killed Foggy so that he could exact revenge on Daredevil, even though Wilson Fisk was the one who paralyzed him. However because Dex didn't know that Matt was Daredevil by the end of Daredevil Season 3, he might have done all the work to know his secret identity and who he hangs out with. It marks the end of a chapter of Nelson and Murdock, and it's going to have a tough blow on Matt for the rest of the season. 'When that was talked about in the beginning, I couldn't quite get my head around that,' Charlie Cox told TV Line. 'I often think of Foggy Nelson as the heartbeat of the MCU. He's integral to Matt's life, Matt's history… and Elden has done such a beautiful job with that character for so many years.' He continued, 'I understand … that we need to make a big splash. We want to rock the boat early on and draw people in in a new way. [Killing Foggy] is one way to do it, but it's a big choice.' The directors of the show also told the site that Foggy's death will have a lasting effect for the rest of the season. Aaron Moorhead recalled planning out Foggy's death, 'it needs to be an atom bomb on the lives of everybody in this show. It needs to ripple out not just for that episode or that moment [but] through Episode 9. And it does.' ‘Daredevil: Born Again' Fans Mourn That Shocking Premiere Death: ‘Sobbed So Much I Almost Threw Up'

The first two episodes of 'Daredevil: Born Again' are now streaming and sadly, the first 16 minutes of the premiere bring a devastating, shocking death. Yes, Foggy Nelson is gone, and fans are in mourning. When we first reunite with Foggy (Elden Henson), Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), it's at the end of a day at Nelson, Murdock and Page, the firm promised at the end of season three of the original Netflix series. As always, they head to Josie's for a drink. But while there, Foggy gets a call that leads him outside, only for him to be shot in the chest by Bullseye (Wilson Bethel). Matt's able to catch up to Bullseye as Daredevil, and as they fight, Matt listens to Foggy's heartbeat slowly stop, as the lawyer dies in Karen's arms. It's a devastating opening sequence, and come Wednesday morning, fans were still shaken by it, with one dubbing it 'the most sickening, heartbreaking and shocking 15 minutes of a new season in a tv show.' "I don't get to see him again. WE don't get to see Foggy again- because my friend is dead." The most sickening, heartbreaking and shocking 15 minutes of a new season in a tv show. #DaredevilBornAgain — Sofía (@starkcanarie) March 5, 2025 Me excited to start the new #Daredevil season to see Foggy Nelson and Karen Page come back after initially not being asked to come back only to see the first 15 minutes of the show:#DaredevilBornAgain — Johann (@johanntimkang) March 5, 2025 Naturally, given the fact that characters have come back from death in the MCU before — and certainly on the original 'Daredevil' series — some fans immediately began telling themselves that Foggy's death isn't permanent. 'Ok guys here's how foggy is actually alive and undercover/it was all a dream/matts in psychosis/this is all VR,' one fan theorized. Another suggested that Foggy might get the Bucky Barnes treatment, coming back as a super soldier in season 2 of 'Born Again.' Bring him back idc HOW — dia. (@diamakes) March 5, 2025 Naturally, Foggy's death causes something in Matt Murdock to snap, leading him to truly try and kill someone for the first time ever, throwing Bullseye off a roof when he hears Foggy's heart stop. According to Cox himself, 'going forward, he will spend a lifetime trying to reconcile that moment.' The good news is, both Deborah Ann Woll, whose character ended up moving to San Francisco following Foggy's death, and Elden Henson are both set to return for the second season of the series. It remains unclear in what capacity. For now though, longtime 'Daredevil' fans are simply processing the news, mourning Franklin Percy Nelson, the great Avocado at Law. Simp McGhee's owner loves camaraderie with guests, food industry

Feb. 15—A lot has changed since Christy Wheat bought Simp McGhee's restaurant in downtown Decatur 20 years ago. But one thing has never changed: her love for visiting with customers, especially repeat ones. "I love everything about my job — the camaraderie with clients," Wheat said. "Our guests are more like family, and when you see someone every week, it's just nice. I just like the industry; I love being in the food industry." Wheat owns Simps at 725 Bank St., which sells fresh Cajun seafood and beef. Her husband, John Wheat, owns Josie's Mediterranean Cafe at 109 Second Ave. N.E., also downtown. The restaurant is named after Simpson "Simp" McGhee, a colorful 19th-century riverboat captain who was known around Decatur for shooting the rapids at Chattanooga and drawing the ire of river officials and drinking in bars with his pet pig. The restaurant was named after him many years ago under the previous owner. Wheat bought the restaurant in 2005. It takes a lot of hours to run a successful business, as any business owner can tell you. "During the week I come in at noon and then go back home when my kitchen staff gets here about 2:30 p.m. I come back to work at 4 and work the evening shift until we close," Wheat said. "We are closed Sundays and Mondays." Wheat got her start in the restaurant business the hard way — by being a server first and then working her way up to management and finally buying the business. She isn't sure what training is out there for prospective restaurant owners, but she knows experience is everything. The restaurant world transformed with the COVID-19 epidemic and hasn't gone back, she said. "COVID changed the whole industry — finding employees is harder and the workforce is very different now," she said. "It has changed as far as the way employees are, to being able to even find employees for that matter — it's just very different now." Costs have always been a concern for restaurant owners, especially now. "Food costs, operating costs, wages — everything is up," Wheat said. They don't always pass it on to customers. "We absorb what we can until it comes down to the point we just can't anymore," Wheat said. The two restaurants owned by the Wheats are very different. "Simps is more a casual but fine dining atmosphere where Josie's is more your night life — casual, relaxed with live music five nights a week." — Assistance for owners Although Christy Wheat worked her way up, learning how a restaurant works from serving, managing and then finally owning the business, there is help out there for new business owners. The Decatur-Morgan County Entrepreneurial Center at 1629 Fourth Ave. S.E., offers a Business 101 course twice a year — once in the spring and again in the fall. "It teaches the basics — financials, law, licensing, branding and all of it," said DeeDee Berry, office manager at the Entrepreneurial Center. She said it is a fantastic course. "It's good for new startup businesses, and will help people enhance their business and get a firm understanding of how to run it well," she said. She said 30 or more people typically attend the 10-week course each semester. The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce offers both personal and professional development through its many activities and events, but nothing specifically geared solely toward new business owners, said Rachel Keith, the chamber's director of communications. "Throughout the year we have several events in which we offer professional development, including Breakfast and Biz, and Emerging Leaders," she said. And as far as on-the-job training, there is the Alabama Community College System Innovation Center across from City Hall, she said. "It customizes training for employees and employers — that's a big part of what they do," Keith said. Whether it is meat cutting or forklift driving, they offer training and they are constantly developing that training, she said. "Let's say an employer has a need to have someone training in forklift driving," she said. "They have a class with the Innovation Center and train several people at once who are interested in getting that certificate. You are talking about for free getting employees trained and certified for a job they already have or to get certified for a job that they want. That's a great benefit for our local employers, too, because they are not having to pay to send that person." Calhoun Community College and Athens State University also offer classes in business that could benefit a new business owner. — or 256-340-2361
