Sevilla players sleep at training ground after ‘extreme violence' from fans
Sevilla players were forced to sleep at the club's training ground following 'extreme violence' from supporters after their 3-2 defeat by Celta Vigo.
A club statement released on Sunday strongly condemned 'organised vandalism' at the José Ramón Cisneros Palacios training complex. Footage on social media appeared to show fans with pyrotechnics gathering outside the training ground on Saturday, with an access gate being damaged.
The seven-time Europa League winners have endured another difficult season and sit 16th in La Liga, just four points above the relegation zone. Saturday's La Liga game in Galicia saw the visitors go in at half-time level and with an extra man – but hosts Celta scored twice in the second half to secure victory before Kike Salas' late consolation.
In their statement, Sevilla said they 'will pursue the public naming of employees and the dissemination of private data on social media and in the media, acts that constitute criminal offences'.
'Sevilla understand the team's sporting situation, which is not what any Sevilla fan wants, may lead to protests, but under no circumstances will they be tolerated if they are accompanied by aggression, threats or acts of vandalism,' the club added.
The statement continued: 'Sevilla requests that the security forces and corps are as diligent as possible in order to get to the final perpetrators of these despicable acts … a gang of organised radicals who acted with extreme violence.'
Sevilla welcome relegation rivals Las Palmas on Tuesday before hosting Real Madrid and visiting Villarreal in their final two matches.
