MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — For the first time, we are hearing from Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch after the arrest of an accused murderer and employee of the sheriff's office in connection with a Christmas Day homicide. Mobile, Alabama mom arrested in connection with Sage Park shooting 'My reaction was unacceptable, and my first words was finding the charges and put her in jail,' Burch said. Andrea Nettles is now a former employee of the sheriff's office. She is accused of hiding her boyfriend, a wanted fugitive, inside her home. The wanted fugitive is Gregory Jowers, he is accused of killing 63-year-old Tommy Fabian on Christmas Day. According to deputies, they found Fabian badly beaten inside his home on McLeod Road in Theodore. He was transported to the hospital and died from his injuries. A week after Fabian died, the Sheriff's office declared that Jowers was wanted for the murder. Jowers was arrested Monday during a standoff on Forest Oak Drive at Nettles' home. 'We don't know how long they were in a relationship whether it started after the Christmas Day murder or before,' Burch said. Nettles joined the sheriff's office in 2023 and worked part-time as a community resource officer, directing traffic at various schools. 'I can speak for the sheriff's office if you harbor a fugitive, or I guess decide to become personally involved with a criminal we don't want you at the sheriff's office and I will terminate you if I find out about it,' Burch said. A murder suspect was apprehended after Alabama deputies accused him of hiding at a shared residence with his girlfriend who is an officer. Gregory Jowers was arrested May 12, according to a Mobile County Sheriff's Office statement shared on Facebook. He is accused in the deadly assault of his roommate, John Fabian, who was found unresponsive in their home on Christmas Day, and later died at a hospital, WALA reported. Deputies said they found Jowers at a home in Mobile where he had been living with his girlfriend, Andrea Nettles, who worked as a community resource officer at the sheriff's office, according to WPMI. Deputies said Nettles helped hide Jowers, reported. She was arrested May 13 and charged with first-degree hindering prosecution, deputies said, according to the outlet. McClatchy News reached out to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office May 14 but did not receive an immediate response. In a news release, the sheriff's office said Nettles is no longer employed there, WPMI reported.

UPDATE (1 p.m.): The suspect in a Christmas Day 2024 homicide has been arrested, has confirmed. Gregory Vanness Jowers, who was , has been arrested in West Mobile. MCSO deputies were called to McLeod Road on Christmas Day, where they found Fabian unresponsive. He was placed on life support before he died. 'The evidence during our investigation leads to Jowers and the fact that he is running from us leads us to that same conclusion,' a March MCSO Facebook post said. It was followed by a hashtag concluding that innocent people don't run. Witnesses who were at the home that deputies were called to said Jowers had assaulted Fabian. MCSO deputies responded to the area of Forest Oaks Drive South and Colonial Oaks Drive, where the reportedly arrested Jowers. PREVIOUS REPORTING WEST MOBILE, Ala. MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The United States Marshals Service is offering a $5,000 reward for information on a 'violent' criminal in Mobile. Springhill Medical Center employee arrested following bomb threat According to a Marshals news release, Gregory Vanness Jowers is wanted for: Murder First-degree robbery Third-degree domestic violence — menacing Third-degree domestic violence Third-degree assault Failure to appear — first-degree receiving stolen property First-degree theft of property Failure to appear — burglary Failure to appear — third-degree escape Jowers is believed to be involved in the death of John Fabian on Christmas Day 2024. According to MCSO deputies, they were called to McLeod Road, where they found Fabian unresponsive. He was placed on life support before he died. Jowers allegedly lived with Fabian. The news release said MCSO officials contacted Marshals for assistance in finding and arresting Jowers on March 26, 2025. Marshals officials said they believe Jowers may be receiving assistance from family members and friends, allowing him to hide from law enforcement.
