Elms College's Urban Education Center celebrates 5 years of progress
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Elms College`s Center for Equity in Urban Education celebrated its fifth anniversary Wednesday evening.
The center's goal has been to increase the diversity of qualified educators and school leaders through culturally responsive practices.
The theme was 'Harambee: Cultivating an Equitable and Just Educational Future,' highlighting the center's achievement and ongoing commitment to foster equity in education.
Dr. Joyce Hampton, the VP of Academic Affairs, told 22News, 'We have been able to expand the number of BIPOC graduates within education as a result of this work.'
'We are being the educational, transformational force for western Massachusetts when it comes to diversifying the teaching workforce,' adds Exec. Director of the center, Dr. Tyra Good.
The celebration included a performance by Libertas Academy Charter School's big red drumline, and the keynote speaker was Timothy Jones, founder and president of 'Techniques-4-Learning, LLC.'
