Bite Club: Taco Boy's creators open seafood spot
The people who brought the popular local Mexican chain Taco Boy's to the Valley are now offering a taste of the ocean.
State of play: Father-son duo Juan Francisco Cornejo Sr. and Jr., along with business partner Suminder Singh Sodhi, opened Marisco Boys last month on 7th Street, a few blocks north of McDowell Road, the Arizona Republic reported.
While Taco Boy's is a casual spot with counter service that's "kind of crazy and chaotic," Marisco Boys is a quieter, more traditional sit-down restaurant, per ABC15.
The menu is inspired by the seafood that the Cornejo family grew up with in northern Mexico.
Zoom in: Some of Marisco Boys' dishes are pretty pricey — the red snapper costs $65, the prime ribeye is $95, and the la charola seafood platter is $125.
Yes, but: There are more reasonably priced meals, too, including a variety of tacos, ceviches and more.
Best bites: I ordered the chicharron de pulpo — marinated, deep-fried octopus — and a Baja fish taco.
The octopus was a treat — both savory and tender. It seemed like more of an appetizer, but they give you tortillas and guacamole with it, so you can make it a delicious taco meal.
The fish taco was as good as anything you'll find. The deep-fried fish practically melts in your mouth, and the Kewpie mayo it comes with adds a fresh little zing.
