‘Armed and dangerous' homicide suspect wanted by San Pablo PD
(KRON) — The San Pablo Police Department is searching for the gunman responsible for shooting and killing a 26-year-old Richmond man earlier this year. The suspect, identified as Juan Vargas, 25, of San Pablo, should be considered 'armed and dangerous,' police said.
The shooting occurred on March 29 around 1:29 a.m. on the 2000 block of 23rd Street. Surveillance video released by the police department shows the gunman approaching a group outside a business before suddenly raising a firearm and shooting Emmanuel Rodriguez Flores. Responding officers found that all involved parties had fled the scene before their arrival.
Flores was discovered to have been driven to a hospital by his acquaintances after the shooting, SPPD said. He later succumbed to his gunshot wounds despite life-saving measures.
Detectives said Vargas was responsible for the shooting based on witness statements and evidence from the scene. He is described by police as a Hispanic man who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and dark-colored tattoos across his face and neck.
San Pablo PD said it has 'conducted extensive operations across the region,' but has been unable to locate Vargas.
'Vargas should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached,' police said. 'If you encounter Vargas, please contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911 for an emergency.'
