Sivagiri couple murder case: police custody of four accused extended by three days
The Judicial Magistrate Court in Kodumudi has granted the police an additional three days of custody to interrogate the four accused arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly couple at Sivagiri on April 28, 2025.
On June 13, police had taken the four accused — P. Aachiappan (48), N. Madeswaran (52), R. Ramesh (54), and Gyanasekaran— into custody for three days. After the custodial period ended, they were produced before the Kodumudi court again on Monday. The police filed a petition seeking extended custody for further interrogation.
Upon hearing the petition, District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate G. Pandiarajan extended the custody.
The bodies of Ramasamy (72) and Bakkiyam (63), residents of Megaraiyan Thottam in Uchimedu near Sivagiri, were discovered in their house on May 1 — three days after the murder. Investigations revealed that the accused had stolen 10.75 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the couple and sold it to the fourth accused, a goldsmith named Gyanasekaran. All four were arrested on May 19. On June 18, three of the accused were detained under the Goondas Act.
