MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow ‘set to quit the show' in ‘judges shake-up'
MasterChef Australia judge Poh Ling Yeow is reportedly set to be replaced on the beloved Channel 10 show. An insider has claimed that the fan-favourite judge could be set to walk away from the show at the end of the season that's currently airing. It's believed that Channel 10 executives are hoping to get original contestant Julie Goodwin to step into Yeow's role. 'Julie would be a fantastic judge. Fans love her,' a source told New Idea. 'While no one wants to see Poh leave, everyone would welcome Julie back with open arms.' Goodwin originally beat Yeow to the title during the very first season of the competition all the way back in 2009. She later made a return to the show in 2022 before appearing as a guest judge in 2023. It's believed she loved being able to step into the role of a judge for the first time and would be keen to return full-time. The rumours come after Yeow shared in the last that she didn't always feel as though judging others came naturally to her, admitting that she sometimes thinks about being a contestant again. 'I don't want to sound ungrateful, but I love the chaos (of being a contestant) and there's nothing quite as exhilarating as just having days on end where you do not know what's going to happen,' she said about her time as a MasterChef competitor in 2009 and 2020. 'Even when I'm standing … at the top of the room (as a judge), I sometimes fantasise about being a contestant again,' Yeow added. 'I constantly run through the challenges that I have just delivered and think about what I would do in that situation. That's how much I miss and love it.' Poh joined the judging panel last year alongside newcomers Jean-Christophe Novelli and Sofia Levin, as well as existing judge Andy Allen. Speaking to Poh previously admitted that she's still struggling to get her head around the judging role. 'I'm still feeling so in the deep end, to be honest,' she said. 'It is so difficult. I knew it was going to be hard, but I didn't quite realise just how hard it was gonna be.' 'It is a little bit related to me feeling self-conscious, and I don't really like to use the words 'impostor syndrome,' it's more that … I feel like I don't know that much,' she said.

Poh Ling Yeow is set to 'leave her judging post on MasterChef' - as executives eye off a fan favourite to replace her
MasterChef Australia fan favourite Poh Ling Yeow is reportedly set to 'leave her judging post' as the cooking competition faces another shake-up in the star cast. The celebrity cook, 51, is said to be preparing her exit from the long-running series at the end of this season - prompting executives to search for a new judge to join Andy Allen, Sofia Levin and Jean-Christophe Novelli on the panel, reported New Idea. And there's already one name being floated as a potential replacement – beloved original contestant Julie Goodwin. 'Julie would be a fantastic judge. Fans love her,' a source told the outlet. 'While no one wants to see Poh leave, everyone would welcome Julie back with open arms.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Julie, 54, who beat Poh in the very first season of MasterChef back in 2009, returned to the franchise in 2022 before making a surprise appearance as a guest judge in 2023. Insiders say she 'absolutely loved' her time on the other side of the bench and could be ready to return in a more permanent capacity. Poh, who joined the judging panel in 2022, has previously admitted the role hasn't always come naturally to her. Earlier this year, she opened up on the From The Newsroom podcast, revealing she often imagines herself back in the contestant's shoes. 'I constantly run through the challenges that I have just delivered and think about what I would do in that situation,' she said. 'That's how much I miss and love it.' It comes after Poh announced she would be stepping away from the kitchen as she revealed she'll be working closely with Tourism NT as their new ambassador. She revealed she wishes to inspire Australians to discover a holiday up north that is 'different in every sense'. 'As someone who adores travel, learning, and finding inspiration in new places, the NT is a dream destination,' Poh said. 'From the breathtaking Top End to the awe-inspiring Red Centre, I've fallen in love with it all - and I couldn't be prouder to showcase everything this extraordinary place has to offer!' In her new role, Poh will spotlight the 'unparalleled beauty, rich cultures, vibrant food scene and artistic heritage' of the Northern Territory. Poh stepped into the role after gracing the cover of The Australian Women's Weekly for the first ever Outback Christmas issue last year. She has since been exploring the vast territory, famous for its red desert landscapes, and visiting some iconic destinations. Travelling through Top End, the celebrity cook enjoyed stops at Litchfield National Park, Finniss River Lodge and the Territory's tropical capital, Darwin. She then made her way down to the Red Centre where she visited Alice Springs (Mparntwe), Hermannsburg (Ntaria), Ormiston Gorge and Ellery Creek Big Hole. Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve and the majestic Uluru-Kata Tjuṯa National Park were also on her list of travel destinations.

MasterChef Australia winner Julie Goodwin shocks fans with surprise new slimmed-down look
Julie Goodwin has debuted a fresh new look in her latest Instagram post. The Aussie cook, 54, who won the inaugural season of MasterChef Australia, had ditched the dye and shed some kilograms as she announced she would be making an appearance at the Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival. 'Australia's original home cook hero, @_juliegoodwin, will bring her warmth, wit and heart to The Kitchen Stage, presented by @ausbuild,' the post read. 'She'll serve up simple, soulful food that inspires the whole family to get cooking.' 'With her signature family-style recipes and relatable charm, Julie's demos promise comfort food, real talk, and that heartwarming reminder of why we fell in love with her all those years ago.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Julie let her greys grow and flaunted a more au-natural colour for her locks in the clip, while also showcasing her weight loss since winning the cooking show in 2009. The kitchen extraordinaire looked slimmer than ever as she encouraged fans to attend the Queensland-based food event in August. Despite her makeover, Julie still donned her signature wide-frame glasses in the post, while wearing a pink sweater and matching, dangly pink earrings. 'Wow you are looking amazing' wrote one fan while another said, 'Omg is that Julie Goodwin? How much weight has she lost?' 'Julie you are looking incredible' someone else wrote while one more said, 'Julie you look absolutely amazing'. Julie reprised her MasterChef appearance in 2012 for the MasterChef All Stars series before appearing on Ten's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of here! ion 2015. More recently, Julie appeared on the 2024 season of channel Seven hit Dancing with the Stars. During her stint on the series, the show's judges called her 'a sexy vixen,' 'a sassy minx,' and even a 'dominatrix'. The MasterChef winner revealed what she really thinks of the stunning response to her makeover for the dance competition in an interview with Daily Mail Australia. 'That was unexpected and unfamiliar,' Julie laughed. 'My family thought it was hilarious. I'm normally cooking and running around after my granddaughter, not pushing a good looking man around on the floor. 'I was stoked with the judges' feedback,' she said. 'It was nice to hear that I'd gotten the dance pretty right.' Julie was sent home alongside Australian Olympian and former politician Nova Peris in a double-elimination round that upset fans of the series. However the beloved TV personality says simply hitting the dancefloor after injury felt like winning. The celebrity chef had just six days in real-time to recover from the 'blindingly painful' calf muscle tear she sustained in week one. 'It certainly impacted our training and I wasn't over it by any means,' she said of her elimination performance which aired on Sunday. 'When I was dancing, I had that much adrenaline in my system I didn't really feel it, but as soon as I got off the floor I had to ice it.' 'I'm really happy I was able to get on the dancefloor,' she said when asked how she felt about exiting the competition.

'Southport roadworks have forced me to shut my pub'
A landlady has said she has been forced to temporarily close her pub due to ongoing roadworks which have caused a 75% drop in Goodwin, owner of Connolly's Irish Pub in Southport, said works to pedestrianise part of the town which began in January had left the area "like a demolition site for months" which had been "financially disastrous" for her business."Nobody's walking down here, there's no footfall, tourists are not going to come here it's just terrible," she Council said the authority had worked closely with the business on King Street and "worked hard to minimise disruption". The works are part of plans to regenerate and pedestrianise the area around Market Street and King Street in the town but local businesses said they were taking too long, pedestrian routes through the works were confusing and footfall was down dramatically."It's just chaos around here," she said."There's dust, it's noisy. We've had lovely weather recently and nobody wants to sit on a building site."She said takings were down 75% month on month since the roadworks began."Financially it's been disastrous for us, it looks like a demolition zone," she said. Her frustrations were echoed by other business owners in the Jones, owner of The Plant Room on Market Street, estimated footfall was down 70% and said she had been forced to take on a second job in the evenings to make ends meet."I'm just about hanging on in there by a thread," she said."I'm having to work in the evenings to cover the rent on the shop now which I never had to do before."I will do whatever it takes whilst this works going on and to keep my business afloat," she said. Crystals and Crowns owner Rosie Coates said while local businesses had been consulted on the pedestrianisation they did not expect such prolonged disruption."They didn't mention how long it was going to take or that they were going to do all the roads at the same time," Ms Coates said."Since January it's just been chaos. I am approximately 70% down on my takings. "People don't want to walk around a building site and I don't blame them." Sefton Council said the authority had worked closely with the businesses including redesigning the planned new pavement area outside premises to provide more space for outdoor seating. "We will continue to review the phasing, the signage and consider any options to support businesses during the project," a representative said. Celebrity chef Julie Goodwin hosts cooking segment on rival Seven after MasterChef: Back To Win absence
Julie Goodwin has appeared on Seven's Sunrise program after being noticeably left out of Channel 10's MasterChef: Back To Win. Ten's kitchen competition series returned to screens on Monday with 24 contestants from previous seasons vying for a second chance to win the title. Goodwin, 54, shot to national fame after winning the inaugural season of MasterChef Australia in 2009 and became a successful cookbook author and Australian Women's Weekly columnist. Despite her long association with the Ten cooking competition series, Goodwin is understood to not be involved in the current season MasterChef: Back To Win. Instead, Goodwin jumped over to rival Seven to host a cooking segment alongside Sunrise host Matt Shirvington. 'STROGANOFF!,' Goodwin wrote on Instagram on Wednesday alongside a clip of her TV appearance. 'Chicken stroganoff this morning on @sunriseon7 with the @womensweeklymag. 'Inexpensive, easy, warming and yum!' Goodwin's Sunrise gig comes as her old kitchen rival Poh Ling Yeow was given the red carpet treatment and returned to MasterChef as a full-time judge this season. While Julie is not involved in Back To Win, the celebrity chef did earlier appear in the spin-off MasterChef Australia All-Stars in 2012, raising over $35,000 for charity. In 2022, Goodwin returned to the cooking series again for season 14 of MasterChef Australia in 2022, finishing in fifth place. The update comes after the mum-of-three opened about her private mental health battles after rocketing to fame on the back of her MasterChef victory. Goodwin was secretly battling mental health demons as her star rose, which culminated in a mid-range drink driving offence in 2018 and an attempt on her own life two years later. 'I couldn't see how to keep living. I didn't want to leave my family, but I just honestly believed that they would be a lot better off if I did,' she told Project host Hamish Macdonald in 2024. The star cook later spoke to Nine Honey about her mental health journey and revealed she was now in a good place. "I'm good, I really am," she said. "But it's a concentrated effort to remain good, you know. I've learnt so much over the past few years about what I need to do to be well and now I just put priority on those things." The beloved celebrity chef also said that she needed to focus on prioritising her physical and mental health to avoid 'sliding again'. "I know that if I let any of those things go that I could start to slide again so I'm pretty, you know, I'm pretty vigilant about it all cause it's important," she said. "I don't want to go back there again."
