Birds of a Feather star claims BBC show 'didn't want me' as she details brutal snub

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Birds of a Feather legend Lesley Joseph has claimed she was snubbed by a major BBC show when she expressed interest in participating. Known for her role as Dorien Green in the beloved sitcom, and her stint on Strictly Come Dancing, Lesley shared this revelation during a recent interview in which she discussed potential reality TV appearances. When quizzed about whether she would consider I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, the 79-year-old actress dismissed the idea of entering the Jungle merely to boost her profile, and instead named other types of shows she might be interested in. It also prompted her to share a tidbit about another hugely popular reality show on the BBC. Lesley apparently expressed an interest in the series, but she was ultimately turned down. (Image: BBC / Studio Lambert) Speaking to Bella magazine, Lesley said: "I don't particularly want to go into the Jungle just as a way to get my name back up there. I think some reality television can be very amusing and interesting - for example, Strictly and Dancing on Ice, when you've got people who are learning skills and entertaining. "Reality TV is slicing into drama, and I do think it's a very slippery slope if we go completely down that road. I wanted to take part in The Traitors, but they didn't want me." Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, The Traitors invites 22 strangers into a castle in the Scottish Highlands to compete in what the BBC describes as the "ultimate reality game of trust and treachery" for a cash prize of £120k. Launched last year, the programme has become a massive success story, with the broadcaster boasting a devoted viewership. It's been reported that the show's third series captivated an average of 10.3 million viewers across its dozen episodes. The psychological reality show has scooped up numerous accolades, such as the BAFTA TV Award for Best Reality and Constructed Factual and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Entertainment Programme. (Image: Getty Images for Sentebale) A star-studded special edition of the programme is in the pipeline, featuring a dazzling array of celebrities including the likes of Alan Carr, Charlotte Church, Clare Balding, Stephen Fry, and Paloma Faith. In another recent admission by Lesley, the actress opened up about her future in the entertainment industry. Speaking to Woman's Own, she said: "At my age, I don't know how much longer I have left in the business." She revealed that she's "still ambitious" but conceded that her "time is limited". Meanwhile, she also shared details about how she stays fit, explaining that she "walks everywhere". In addition, she does yoga, ensures she gets enough sleep and takes vitamins. Lesley also detailed how she has "a lot more to offer" and there are roles that she'd like to tackle prior to retirement, adding that she became "frustrated" with the label of "sitcom queen".

Rajpal Yadav says there is no nepotism in Bollywood: Agar hota toh Shah Rukh Khan, Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar kaise hote

Nepotism in Bollywood has long been a topic of heated debate. Actor Rajpal Yadav recently addressed the issue and said that the success of actors depends on their talent. In an interview with ANI, Rajpal said it may be possible to get an initial break in Bollywood because of connections, but success depends on inherent talent and the response of the audience. (Also Read | Rajpal Yadav bashes Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Rania amid India's Got Latent row, says he cries 'watching such people') "There is no nepotism. I want to speak very honestly. Nepotism agar hota to Shah Rukh Khan sahab kaise hote, Rajpal Yadav kaise hote, Paresh Rawal kaise hote, Anupam Kher sahab kaise hote, Akshay Kumar sahab kaise hote, Johny Lever sahab kaise hote, Sanjeev Kumar sahab kaise hote, Rajesh Khanna sahab kaise hote, Dharmendra sahab kaise hote (If there was nepotism, how would there be Shah Rukh Khan, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar, Johny Lever, Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra)?" "In my family nobody asked me to join Bollywood or khud mere mann mein aaya and I told my kids koi bhi khel mein aur cinema mein koi kisi ka jeewan nahi bana sakta (In film and sports nobody can make your life)....to usme aapke andar ka jo baitha hua ek sacha aur acha insaan hai agar vo aapko bolta hai you are capable to do this to fir aap karo nahi to mai dhakka de sakta hu par dhakke ke baad jo patkhani khaoge usko mai bhi nahi bacha sakta..(if the good person sitting within you tells you can do it, then do it. I can give a push, but the reversal you will face later, I can't prevent that)," he added. The actor said that it is possible to get an opportunity initially because of one's parents, but that is no guarantee of success. "If you are a player, your kid will get a chance to play. Similarly, if a person who has been doing film or television for 30 years, his child... He must know what my father does. So, he will learn filmmaking lekin vo chalega ki nahi chalega kar paayega ki nahi kar paayega vo urza hai ya nahi hai vo decide karta hai ya to uparvala ya audience.. nepotism nahi hai.. (but whether he will taste success or not, has that energy or is decided by the Almighty or the audience, there is no nepostism)," shared the actor known for his films including Partner, Garam Masala, Hungama among others. "I have been acting for 38 years now. And I have at least 200 relatives. Mai to ek ko bhi nahi karva blessings apni apni.. mehnat apni hai (I haven't been able to get them work here. It is blessings, hard work) and finally it is the audience who decides." Rajpal's breakthrough performance was in Ram Gopal Varma's Jungle, which was released in 2000. He later gained popularity for his slapstick comic performances and received several accolades. He worked in movies such as Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Bhagam Bhag.

From Eminem to E-40, Nickatina to Zeppelin, what goes into Giants' signature sounds?

Logan Webb start days have a signature sound. And it is so, so Bay Area. As the San Francisco Giants ' ace strides to the mound, a symphony of whale calls fill Oracle Park underscored by the bump of hard bass. It is the prelude to 'Killa While,' a song by San Francisco-based rapper Andre Nickatina. Since Webb debuted in 2019, the Rocklin native decided it was important to him to make his warm-up song a Bay Area tune. He used to use 'Feelin' Myself,' by Mac Dre, but switched to Nickatina when his results on the mound were lacking. All he knew was he would stay local. Former Giant shortstop Brandon Crawford's walk-up song had been 'Jungle' by Nickatina for his entire career, which inspired Webb. 'I've always listened to Andre Nickatina or Mac Dre or P-Lo,' Webb said. 'I heard Craw's was Jungle by Andre Nickatina and I was like 'Man, that's cool.' Then I listened to Killa Whale, and think it's cool when the whales are going off as I'm running out.' Webb isn't the only Giant who goes local. Kyle Harrison, a Danville native, chose 'Gettin' It' by Too $hort upon his return to the bigs. Willy Adames, new to the Bay Area after signing a seven-year deal this offseason, chose 'Yay Area' by E-40 to embrace his new home and learn more about the culture. The roster's walk-up song playlist is eclectic, ranging from classic Mexican artists – Camilo Doval saunters out of the bullpen to 'El Hijo Desobediente' by Antonio Aguilar – and a good amount of country crooners. Starter Landen Roupp warms to 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' by Trace Adkins and closer Ryan Walker takes over with 'Neon Grave' by Tyler Braden blaring. Many Giants go with whatever tune caught their ear, few stick with songs that have become part of their in-game routines while a handful have a full story behind their choice. Wilmer Flores has used 'I'll Be There For You' by the Rembrandts – better known as the 'Friends' theme song – since he was with the New York Mets in 2016. Flores chose the song because it was connected to his all-time favorite show; when his baseball career brought a teenage Flores to the U.S. from Venezuela, he watched 'Friends' on repeat. Not only was it comforting, the dialogue helped him learn English. 'At first I started watching the news, but everything they say on the news is very hardcore,' Flores said. 'It's good to watch the news with subtitles when you're learning another language. But then I started watching ('Friends') and got the sarcasm. If you don't get the sarcasm, you don't get the show because it's your second language. I started getting into it.' Flores has custom cleats with running jokes from the series, including a pair that say 'Pivot' across the back. It's a reference to an episode in which Ross Geller (one of the main characters) is trying to get a couch up the stairs to his apartment. Flores said he has watched the show too many times to count. 'Sometimes it feels like I'm not even watching it,' he said. 'When I'm cleaning or something I'll just put it on. Not even paying attention, just listening to it.' The 33-year-old has been in the league since 2013, chose the song around 2016 and doesn't plan on ever changing it again. 'I still get the same feeling,' he said. 'I don't see myself walking up to the plate and not hearing that song.' Flores' walk-up song reminds him of a comfortable feeling, Mike Yastrzemski 's song has become part of a sensory routine. He's used 'When the Levee Breaks' by Led Zeppelin since his rookie year with the Giants in 2019. While Yastrzemski is thinking over situations that could present themselves in the at-bat, the song's guitar riffs act as a signal for him in the on-deck circle to lock in. 'I hear that song and I already know where I am. I'm going to the box now,' Yastrzemski said. 'I hear that dinner bell and it's 'oop, I know where I am right now. Especially if you're thinking about other things, a play or baserunning or pitch selection. All of the sudden I hear it and it's 'OK, time to dial it in.' I hear the song start and I don't hear anything else. I'm lost right after I hear that song start.' Historically, a walk-up or warm-up song became part of certain players' baseball alter ego and intimidation factor. Think Mariano Rivera using 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica, Trevor Hoffman using AC/DC's 'Hells Bells' or Robb Nenn walking out to 'Smoke on the Water' by Deep Purple. Justin Verlander, a 20-year veteran, has been warming up to ''Til I Collapse' by Eminem since his days with the Detroit Tigers. The song choice couldn't be more appropriate now that Verlander, at age 42, is the oldest active pitcher in the majors – pitching until he can't anymore. Some players change their walk-up song regularly, often depending on performance. Matt Chapman, the current Giants clubhouse DJ, typically switches up his walk-up song when he's in a skid at the plate. Anything that can shift the energy. Chapman has used the Grammy-winning track 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar since midway last season and stuck with it as he glided into a hot August in which he batted .270 with six home runs. Off to a slow start to start in 2025, Chapman is considering changing things up when the Giants return home from an 11-day road trip through Washington, Detroit and Miami. 'I'll probably change my walk-up song soon,' Chapman said. 'See how today (Wednesday) goes and then I might change it.'

Absent Farage found frolicking in France

Other than some characteristically hyperbolic comments delivered via his employer, GB News, Reform leader Nigel Farage has been curiously quiet on the airwaves, and failed to attend yesterday's debate on the deal in the House of Commons. With British politics partying like it's 2016 this week – debating whether Sir Keir's gleaming new EU deal was a supermarket-basket-slashing boost to the nation's coffers or a betrayal worthy of Lord Haw-Haw himself – one man has been conspicuous by his absence. Where was the man who has devoted his entire political career to putting as much distance between Britain and the continent as possible? And how did he manage to vanish the week of a major UK-EU summit, the date of which has been public knowledge for months? After stonewalling questions, Farage finally admitted last night that he was on holiday in, ahem, France, issuing a statement saying: 'There seems to be great consternation in the press that they have not seen me for 48 hours. Well, they will have to wait some time,. 'After months of touring the UK in the run-up to our hugely successful local election campaign I will resume travelling the country next week as Reform moves to the next stage. Meanwhile I am having my first overseas break for three years, the Jungle [his stint on I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!] excepted.' This is not entirely true: according to the House of Commons' register of members' interests, the MP for Clacton has made at least nine trips abroad, including eight to the US, since last year's general election, with many of them either funded by friendly donors or made for paid work such as delivering speeches. These included a visit to the US in support of Donald Trump in August last year where flights and accommodation for Farage and one staffer cost nearly £33,000, and a £27,000 trip to attend Trump's inauguration in January this year. Still, if Farage really needs a break, it would be churlish to expect him to wait until the House rises for its Whitsun recess. That doesn't start until, er, tomorrow and lasts until June 2.

Corrie's Elle Mulvaney on 15 years on soap and whether she'll beat Bill Roache's

EXCLUSIVE: Elle Mulvaney has been on the ITV soap since she was seven years old and has no plans to leave anytime soon as she opens up on her time on the cobbles Coronation Street star Elle Mulvaney is eyeing up her on screen grandad Bill Roach's world record as she pledges her future to the soap. On the ITV show since she was just seven, 22-year-old Elle recently celebrated 15 years on the cobbles. She's got a while longer to go to match Bill's 65 years as her telly grandad Ken Barlow, but she says in it for the long haul. 'It's quite the challenge to beat,' she laughs. 'I am young enough to do it, I guess. It must be incredible for someone to be here 65 years. All the stories he must have done and all the people he must have met. Who knows what the future will bring? But right now I am loving Corrie more than ever and have no plans to leave, so long as they still want me.' ‌ ‌ Playing the bolshy Amy Barlow, daughter to Tracy (Kate Ford) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), Elle has not been short of gritty storylines. Most recently her character was sexually assaulted and joined a cult. 'I still can't believe I have been there for 15 years,' beams Elle. 'It's hard to describe because in one way it feels that long but in another way it doesn't. I joined when I was just seven and I'm now 22. I was just a young kid. I am so fortunate though. I still love Corrie, where I work and everyone I work with. I am just really lucky.' She calls her co-stars her 'family', after spending two thirds of her life with them. 'Kate and Simon who play my parents have had an impact in my childhood and in my life,' says Elle. "Bill, we have spent 15 years together. They are more than colleagues, they do become a part of your family.' Watching Corrie co-stars like Simon, 50, and Jack P Shepherd, 37, go off to reality shows, Elle says she has got her eye on one – I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. 'I don't know if I could do Celebrity Big Brother,' Elle admits. 'I'm not sure I could cope in the house or with all the big personalities. Jack is so chilled and lovely he took the right approach. He was just himself and was really good in that situation. I would like to do the Jungle at some point though." ‌ "Simon, who plays my dad, did it and loved it. Bev Callard, who played my nan, also did it so we have a family tradition. I'm alright with bugs and creepy crawlies and snakes. They don't bother me. But I think I would really struggle with the food and the drink. I'd struggle eating or cooking the meal in camp, never mind the Bushtucker Trials. I'd have to stick to the rice and beans.' Today Elle lines up for the Manchester Great Run, after catching the running bug. What started off as an opportunity to catch up with friends amid her busy Corrie schedule has turned into something much more. 'I love the way running makes me feel,' she explains. 'I love the social aspect of it. The fact you can catch up with friends while also moving your body. I always feel better after a run. I find it helps my mental health a lot. I feel a lot less stressed and I can think a lot clearer about things.' She says running has given her more confidence. 'It makes me feel better, it makes me look better,' she said. 'The hardest thing is the mental battle. Your mind wants to give up but you know your body is capable of more. That's the amazing thing about running. You prove to yourself you are capable of more than you realise.'
