Charlie Woods falls short in US Open qualifying attempt
Charlie Woods won't be playing the U.S. Open this year. The 16-year-old son of Tiger Woods shot 3-over par 75 at Wellington Golf Club in Florida on Thursday, finishing seven strokes off the qualifying score of 68. It's the second straight year Woods failed to qualify for the tournament, but his showing on Thursday was an improvement on his attempt last spring, when he shot 9-over 81 at the Legacy Golf and Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie. Tiger Woods will lead design of short course at Augusta Municipal
Tiger Woods talks to his Jupiter Links Golf Club teammate Kevin Kisner before a TGL match in Florida in January. (Marta Lavandier / Associated Press) Tiger Woods isn't at the Masters — he's recovering from a ruptured Achilles' tendon — but he has still made a big impact on this year's tournament. Augusta National announced Monday that Woods will lead the design of a short course as part of the redevelopment of Augusta Municipal Golf Course, nicknamed 'The Patch.' It will be a nine-hole, par-three course called The Loop at the Patch, in honor of the local caddies who for years have gathered there. Advertisement Two years ago, Augusta National announced a plan to renovate The Patch, which closed late last year so construction could begin. The course is scheduled to reopen in April 2026. Ridley, chairman of Augusta National. 'It was clear when I shared the concept that it sort of piqued his interest, and that was sort of the beginning of a conversation, a dialogue that took place between our organizations. After a few meetings took place, the idea grew from what we were doing to how Tiger and [Woods' foundation] TGR could be involved.' Advertisement Woods, a five-time Masters champion, has also committed to building a TGR Learning Lab in Augusta, which will provide access to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics education for young people in the area. Upper Deck Re-Ups Exclusivity Agreement With Tiger Woods
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA - MARCH 04: Tiger Woods of Jupiter Links Golf Club plays a shot during ... (Photo by Megan Briggs/TGL/TGL via Getty Images) Tiger Woods has been linked to Upper Deck—a longtime licensee of the NHL and PGA Tour—for a quarter century, and the Carlsbad, California-based sports collectibles giant has extended its exclusive agreement with the 15-time major winner. With this extension, Upper Deck remains the sole producer of the big cat's trading cards, collectibles, and autographed memorabilia, continuing a partnership that has now spanned a generation. 'We've been fortunate to work alongside Tiger for nearly his entire professional career, helping create connections with fans and celebrate moments throughout his historic journey with our collectibles,' Jason Masherah, president of Upper Deck, said. 'Tiger Woods fans across the globe have collected the authentic and innovative products we've created together. We look forward to continuing our relationship and building products dedicated to Tiger's historic legacy.' Tiger Woods has been with Upper Deck since 2000 While terms of the deal extension were not announced, Upper Deck's initial deal with the golf icon, inked back during the Tiger Slam when he won four consecutive major championships, was for $15 million. The signing was a hit off the tee for the collectible company who sold 58,000 cases on the launch day of their 2001 SP Authentic Golf trading cards with fans chasing Tiger autos. A PSA 10—graded Tiger Woods /900 autograph from this set recently changed hands for $28,099 on eBay. Tiger's image appears on the box of UD's current golf trading card offerings, including their mixed sport Goodwin Champions boxes, which feature golfers as well as soccer players, MMA fighters, and retired legends like Wayne Gretzky and Michael Jordan. In the Upper Deck store, deep pocketed golf fans can pick up a signed Tiger polo Nike polo for $10,000 or a signed Masters or Stanford pin flag for $5,500. Golf fans will not see the 49-year-old in action next week at the first major of the year. Tiger is currently rehabbing from an injury, but the player who has won five green jackets at Augusta National and remains golf's chief needle mover always makes news in the Spring—whether he's playing or not. This week alone he opened a TGR Learning Lab in West Philadelphia at Cobbs Creek Golf Course, a 30,000 square-foot facility with nine classrooms where local students will receive instruction in STEAM courses— science, technology, engineering, arts and math. His apparel brand Sun Day Red also dropped a new collection and he found time to get into the spirit of April Fools Day, with an early comeback head fake. 'I can't believe I am saying this, but a few weeks after rupturing my left Achilles, the sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber plus the explosive lifts my doctors and trainers have me ready to play the Masters next week! Can't wait! See y'all on the course,' Woods joked on X.

(AP Photo/Rebecca Blackwell,File) For those who think golf needs a longer offseason, TGL might be the ticket. The high-tech indoor golf league wrapped up its inaugural season last week with Billy Horschel hitting the putt heard' round the SoFi Center to lead Atlanta Drive to the title over New York. Advertisement And now it goes away for nine months. Mike McCarley, the co-founder of TMRW Sports with Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, began taking notes even before the season started on what can be improved for 2026, whether it's technology or having players connect with their city (San Diego native Xander Schauffele plays for New York). The average rating on ESPN platforms was just over 500,000 viewers. TMRW Sports pushes that number over 850,000 using Nielsen Big Data + Panel, which includes smart TVs along with cable boxes. The number that stood out to McCarley was a viewing audience some 12 years younger (median age 52) than traditional golf, trailing only the NBA. Advertisement There also were the intangibles, such as the joy Horschel and Atlanta Drive owner Arthur Blank showed when they won. 'I was visiting the locker room of the teams that won and lost. Hearing them talk about what they should do differently next year was meaningful,' McCarley said. That indicated to him the players bought into it, even though there were times of hit-and-giggle (Woods getting the yardage wrong by 100 yards, any of Kevin Kisner's shanks). 'They started to figure out the ins and outs of competition, some of the strategy and rules, like the hammer,' he said. TMRW Sports already is working with ESPN on a schedule for 2026, though it likely will fall into the January-March window again. Expansion is a strong possibility. One group already is planning to bid for a franchise in Dallas and has put the total investment at $77 million. Advertisement McCarley said the six original teams — Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Jupiter — return with few, if any, changes to the rosters. As for more teams for 2026? 'There's been a ton of interest over the course of a season,' he said. McCarley said at least one potential expansion group has been to every match, most of them owners of franchises in sports from cricket to soccer. He also said TMRW Sports is exploring sites for a potential arena on the West Coast, which might help with travel. That's in the early stages and more than a year away if it happens. And if the team concept is supposed to work, shouldn't the Atlanta Drive club of Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Lucas Glover get rings? Advertisement Masters upgrade For those who can't get enough of the Masters, Augusta National is providing more coverage than ever this year, particularly outside the ropes. The broadcast will get an additional five hours — two hours on the weekend (noon to 2 p.m.) on the CBS streaming platform Paramount+, and starting one hour earlier than normal (2 p.m.) for Sunday. But that's just a start. and the Masters App is offering live streaming of the broadcast, featured coverage, interactive player tracking of every shot on every hole. That feature also includes the driving range. Starting on Monday, users will have access to live and recorded data on every single shot from each player during their range sessions throughout the tournament. Details will include distance, carry, speed, hang time, height, curve and wind. Advertisement Each individual shot will deliver a 3D tracing, and a full scatterplot for every player will be available from each day of their range sessions. Also new this year is HRD Live Video for all live stream for those with compatible devices, designed to enhance color. This will also will be available on the 'Every Shot, Every Hole' videos. For golf, it's technology unlike any other. The $100 million dollar man Rory McIlroy rallied to tie for fifth at the Houston Open and in doing so crossed a PGA Tour milestone that previously belonged only to Tiger Woods: The $100 million man. McIlroy earned $337,844 in the Houston Open, taking his career earnings to $100,046,906. Advertisement Woods, who likely is out the rest of the year with a ruptured Achilles tendon, is at $120,999,166. He has led the PGA Tour in career earnings for 25 years, having first reached the top spot after the 2000 Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines with a runner-up finish. At the time, Woods had played only 73 times on the PGA Tour. He crossed the $100 million mark in September 2012. Given the current state of prize money — and the state of Woods' health — McIlroy could surpass Woods at No. 1 in career earnings before he turns 40. Of course, that assumes Scottie Scheffler doesn't get there first. Scheffler, in just his sixth season on the PGA Tour, already is No. 5 on the list with $75,134,784. He is coming off a year in which he earned just short of $30 million. Advertisement Among players under 40, next on the list would be Jordan Spieth (No. 10) at $63,562,963. Tiger Woods says he ruptured his Achilles' tendon, an injury that will keep him out of the Masters
