MSHP investigating police shooting near 11th, Prospect
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is investigating a shooting Friday night involving officers with the Kansas City Police Department. The shooting was reported around 5 p.m. near E. 11th Street and Prospect Avenue. Investigators say the suspect of a stolen vehicle ran from a traffic stop. KCPD's helicopter had just finished a call in the area and was able to locate the stolen car. Police went to the neighborhood near 11th and Prospect, where they used spike strips to stop the car, according to MSHP. Download the FOX4 News app on iPhone and Android The suspect ran on foot and police shot the suspect, who MSHP said is a man in his 50s. MSHP is investigating and said while it is unusual, there's no predicting when these shootings will happen. 'I know it's unnerving not only for the community but for the law enforcement community as well,' Cpt. Justin Ewing with MSHP said. 'We never know when these events are going to happen or unfold, so hopefully we don't continue to see this trend, hopefully we don't continue to see violence in our community that's something that none of us want to see.' Police did find a handgun when they took the suspect into custody but no shots were fired at the officers. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This is the second shooting in just a few days involving officers with KCPD. On Tuesday evening, a near 16th and Jefferson. MSHP investigating shooting involving KCPD officers near 16th, Jefferson
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is investigating a shooting Tuesday night involving Kansas City police officers. Cpl. Justin Ewing with MSHP said the incident started just before 5:50 p.m. when the driver of vehicle drove off during a traffic stop. Woman charged with murder, man arrested in connection to KC sports reporter death Ewing said the suspect had ran from police agencies in both Missouri and Kansas. A KCPD helicopter followed the suspect vehicle and communicated with officers on the ground who then located the vehicle in the area of W. 16th Street and Jefferson Street, near I-670 and I-35. As officers attempted to make contact, the suspect driver pulled into a private parking lot. Two officers got out of their vehicle and began giving commands to the suspect. The suspect then drove in the direction of the officers and struck a KCPD vehicle. An officer inside fired shots, striking the suspect. Ewing said the suspect was taken into custody and taken to the hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries. He is currently reported to be in stable condition. Investigation continues into I-29 road rage shooting
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A suspected road rage shooting is being investigated after someone shot at a car on I-29 near Vivion Road in the Northland. The shooting happened around 11:40 a.m. Thursday in front of witnesses. Despite that, the shooter has yet to be arrested. Dash camera video from a tractor-trailer reveals the suspect's vehicle is a white Mercedes with what appears to be a temporary registration tag on the back. The victim was not hit; the only damage was to their vehicle. Cpl. Justin Ewing with the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said it stemmed from some sort of exchange between the victim and suspect on the interstate. Investigators are still determining if it is in fact road rage but believe that is most likely the case. 20-year-old man convicted in 2023 I-70 road rage killing near Oak Grove 'We do believe it was speeding, which may have stuck out to someone,' explained Ewing when asking for witnesses to come forward. 'Anyone willing to fire a gun at another vehicle in the middle of the day, that's a clear disregard for the safety of the people around them,' he said. While that investigation continues, so does another just five miles north on that same interstate. Sports reporter . The 50-year-old's case remains unsolved as tips are starting to dry up. 'We're still working on things that we've subpoenaed for either video footage. We've even tried to send off some of the camera footage we have to get the image cleared up, but unfortunately, a lot of the footage we have is really grainy,' said Cpt. Jeffrey Shanks with the Platte County Sheriff's Office. He said the weather that night did not help the investigation. Since the city was still thawing out from a blizzard not many people were on the road around 7 p.m. The sheriff's office is also not sure what kind of car the shooter was driving, but believe it was most likely a small sedan. 'It was hard to even judge a color because of the salt debris and everything else. Even a dark-colored vehicle with debris on it would have looked light or two-tone,' Shanks said.
