Area church dedicates monthly event to helping those in need

JOPLIN, Mo. — A local church makes it a monthly mission to make a difference in the community. Hundreds of volunteers came together for Saturday Serve this morning at James River Church in Joplin. One Saturday each month, the 'serve team' dedicates its time to helping people in need. Today, volunteers assembled care packages filled with essential items like toothpaste, blankets, and socks, along with stuffed animals and Bibles. 'Through their giving – it allows us to minister to our area and to our community every Saturday serve and days like today where these gift packs are being built for the homeless in our area,' said Justin Jahanshir, James River Church campus pastor. James River Church volunteers delivered the care packages to local nursing homes and homeless shelters. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
