Justin Thomas' wild round at PGA ends with shoes and socks off at 18th hole
Justin Thomas' wild round at PGA ends with shoes and socks off at 18th hole CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Justin Thomas' wild opening round at the PGA Championship ended fittingly enough, with his left sock and shoe off as he contemplated how to hit from an utterly ridiculous lie after his ball came to rest on a one-foot patch of tall grass sandwiched between a large rock and a creek next to the 18th green. Yeah, it was that kind of a day. Advertisement For what it's worth, Thomas somehow managed to land his chip beautifully on the green by striking down at the ball with his lob wedge, only to miss the 12-foot par putt and finish at 2-over-par 73, nine shots behind leader Jhonattan Vegas. It could have been worse. The two-time PGA champion played the first six holes in 4 over before rallying back to 1 over for the day heading into No. 18. By the end of his round, his scorecard had more squares and circles than a kindergarten playroom as he finished with five birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey. His start was somewhat reminiscent of the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, which he went on to win. Advertisement Thomas began that round on the back nine and was 2 over with three holes left. Then he bogeyed the seventh hole when he hit into the water and flew the green on No. 8. 'I could not have been in a worse place,' Thomas said at the time. 'I was 7 yards over the green on a downslope. And now I have a chip that I have to get up-and-down or I'm 4 over.' Thomas holed what he called 'the most ridiculous flop shot I've ever hit' for a birdie to shoot 73. The following day, he shot 66 and was on his way to capturing the Wanamaker Trophy.

Justin Thomas' playoff win sees highest final-round RBC Heritage viewership since 2002
Justin Thomas' playoff win sees highest final-round RBC Heritage viewership since 2002 Golf ratings are on a heater the last two weeks. After Rory McIlroy's Masters victory produced an eye-popping viewership figure last week, Justin Thomas breaking his winless drought and capturing the RBC Heritage in a playoff Sunday had another stellar figure for CBS and the PGA Tour. The tally: 4.36 million people tuned in to the final round at Harbour Town Golf Links, which ended in a playoff with Thomas burying a birdie putt to beat Andrew Novak. The number is a 103 percent increase over 2024, which had a weather delay during the final round and finished Monday. The figure is up 5 percent from Matt Fitzpatrick's playoff win over Jordan Spieth in 2023, which saw 4.15 million viewers. Perhaps more impressive is how good that final-round number is. The 4.36 million figure makes it the largest for an RBC final round since 2002. For the weekend, CBS averaged 3.3 million viewers, up from 62 percent in 2024, per Josh Carpenter with Sports Business Journal. Carpenter also noted the early-round coverage on Golf Channel drew 536K viewers, a record for the event. 2024 was not a strong year for golf ratings, but the trend this year has been a rebound closer to what figures have been in the past, or in the case of the last two weeks, some of the highest totals in recent years. Will the trend continue as the season progresses? Only time will tell.

Check out the newest Titleist GT golf clubs, including Justin Thomas' RBC winning driver
Check out the newest Titleist GT golf clubs, including Justin Thomas' RBC winning driver Titleist GT 1 driver The GT1 represents the biggest technological leap ever in Titleist driver design Shop at PGA TOUR Superstore Justin Thomas won the 2025 RBC Heritage in dramatic fashion on Sunday, holing a 21-foot birdie putt to win the tournament in a playoff. While it was his first win in three years, JT has been playing great golf so far this year, with five top-10 finishes. One of the reasons for Thomas improved play is a swap to the new Titleist GT2 driver. The GT2 is one of four drivers released by Titleist in 2025. The GT1 adds peak forgiveness, the GT2 maximizes stability, the GT3 aids left-right adjustability and the GT4 is for golfers who need a low-spin driver. Per Golfweek equipment guru David Dusek from his original club review earlier this year, For the past several generations of woods, Titleist has kept to the same naming conventions and made it very easy for golfers to get a good sense for what each driver is about. Clubs that end with a 2, like the recently released GT2, are designed to deliver a blend of stability and distance, while 3 clubs, such as the GT3, are made to blend left-and-right adjustability with enhanced ball speed. Clubs that get a 4 designation, such as the GT4, are low-spin offerings. But Titleist didn't stop with drivers, also releases three new accompanying GT hybrids in 2025. Per Dusek, "Players seeking high-launching, forgiving hybrids with lightweight configurations (GT1); golfers who want maximum forgiveness and stability (GT2); and advanced players who value workability and a compact, iron-like design for shaping shots (GT3)." Take a look at all the new Titleist GT drivers and hybrids to see which could be right for your game. The GT2 is slightly smaller and is the most forgiving of the three. Finally, the GT3 is the smallest of the bunch and crafted for the higher-level golfer.
