Squid Game is nearing its end. The hit South Korean drama returns to Netflix this week with its third and final season, picking up after the intense Season 2 finale that delivered one of the series' biggest twists yet. Here's everything you need to know about watching the final episodes.
Season 3 picks up following last season's explosive ending, where Gi-hun led a rebellion that resulted in the deaths of many of his allies, including Juthang-bae, his closest friend in Squid Game. But perhaps the most shocking part of Season 2, Episode 7, was the revelation that Player 001 was none other than the mysterious Front Man.
Although Gi-hun will encounter 'his lowest point yet" following the aftermath of Jung-bae's death, the terrifying competition must go on. Gi-hun and the other surviving players must make major decisions in the next portion of the game, while being thrust into a deadlier version than ever before, per Netflix Tudum.
But don't worry — Gi-hun (aka Player 456) is far from finished with his mission to end the games and take down the Front Man. 'Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players' choices will lead to graver consequences with each round," the synopsis for Season 3 reads.

Squid Game Season 3 premieres on Friday, June 27, at 3 a.m. ET / midnight PT on Netflix. All six episodes of the final season are expected to be released on the platform at once.

Season 3 of Squid Game will consist of six episodes, making it the shortest season of the Netflix hit. Season 2, which premiered in December 2024, had seven episodes, while the first season had nine.
Director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk previously told Deadline that he penned Seasons 2 and 3 consecutively. He felt that Season 2, Episode 7 would be the perfect place to pause the story before continuing with Season 3.
'When I was writing the script for the two seasons, I felt like there was a big turning point or an inflection point, and that was the end of episode seven, so I thought that it would do it justice to have a separate season after that," he explained. "That's why I had first seven episodes as Season 2 and then the rest of Season 3.'

Unfortunately, the upcoming third season of Squid Game will be the drama's final season. Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed the news in a letter to fans in 2024.
'I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season,' he wrote, according to Tudum. 'The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man's] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.'
