Utah D Juuso Valimaki has season-ending ACL surgery

March 10 - Utah Hockey Club defenseman Juuso Valimaki will be sidelined 8-9 months following surgery to repair a torn ACL, the team announced Monday. Valimaki, 26, will miss training camp and at least the first month of the 2025-26 season. He is under contract for one more season at $2 million. He appeared in 43 games this season for Utah and recorded two goals, three assists and 14 penalty minutes. Valimaki recently cleared waivers and had been on assignment with the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners, where he saw action in one game on Feb. 28. The Finland native has 72 points (11 goals, 61 assists) in 271 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames (2018-19, 2020-22), the then-Arizona Coyotes (2022-24) and Utah.

Utah's Juuso Valimaki out 8-9 months after surgery to repair a torn ACL

SALT LAKE CITY — Juuso Valimaki is expected to be out 8-9 months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL, Utah Hockey Club general manager Bill Armstrong said. The 26-year-old defenseman from Finland recently cleared waivers and was assigned to the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League. He played one game for them on Feb. 28. Valimaki's extended absence means he will miss training camp and at least the first month of the 2025-26 NHL season. He has one more year left on his contract at a salary of $2 million. A first-round pick by Calgary in 2017, Valimaki played 84 regular-season and playoff games for the Flames before getting claimed off waivers by the Arizona Coyotes in October 2022. He re-signed with Utah in June after the club moved from the Phoenix area to Salt Lake City and averaged 16 minutes over 43 games this season before being sent to the minors.

Utah waives D Juuso Valimaki

February 23 - The Utah Hockey Club placed defenseman Juuso Valimaki on waivers Sunday. Valimaki, 26, was in his third season with the Arizona/Utah franchise when he played a combined 189 games. Utah recently added defensemen John Marino and Sean Durzi back into the lineup following long-term injury absences, and Valimaki lost his spot. If he clears waivers, Utah can assign him to AHL affiliate Tucson. He had two goals, three assists and 14 penalty minutes in 43 games this season. He was also selected to Finland's squad for the 4 Nations Face-Off but did not appear in a game. The Calgary Flames selected Valimaki in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft. He has totaled 11 goals and 61 assists in 271 career games spread over six NHL seasons.
