Why Sonakshi Sinha and Jyothika replaced Kareena Kapoor Khan-Kiara Advani in Ashwiny Iyer's upcoming OTT film?
After almost two years of back-and-forth, filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has finally hit the ground running with her much-awaited OTT project, a courtroom drama backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment, and Harman Baweja's Baweja Studios. What's making more noise than the shoot itself is the casting shuffle that saw Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani being replaced by Sonakshi Sinha and Jyothika. What happened to Kareena and Kiara? Let's rewind. Kareena and Kiara were initially locked for the project, and fans were quite excited to see the two powerhouse performers together. But despite months of discussions and planning, things just didn't fall into place. The team was eager to kick off the shoot earlier this year, but scheduling conflicts and creative disagreements reportedly delayed the project further. A source close to the production spilt the tea to Mid-day: 'The original plan with Kapoor and Advani didn't materialise because it didn't align with [our] timelines and creative direction.' A fresh cast, a fresh take With the new draft in place and the story tightened, Ashwiny and her team began auditioning again. That's when Sonakshi Sinha stepped in. After multiple look tests and script readings, she was locked in for the lead role of a fierce, no-nonsense lawyer. According to insiders, her performance in recent roles, especially her bold avatar in Dahaad, made her a perfect fit. 'Sonakshi brings a grounded intensity to the role that impressed the creative team,' said the source. As for the second lead, Jyothika, who has already proved her courtroom chops in the 2020 Tamil film Ponmagal Vandhal, was roped in to play a strong parallel character. She's expected to start shooting mid-June. This is not your usual courtroom drama The film, which has already begun shooting in parts of Malvani, Madh Island, and Vile Parle (where courtroom sets have been specially recreated), is shaping up to be an emotionally charged legal drama. But this isn't your typical black-coat drama filled with loud objections and flying verdicts. 'The legal arguments have emotional backstories, and both female leads have equal weight. Their courtroom scenes are expected to be the highlight of the film,' the source added. The film is yet to be titled, and if everything goes as planned, the team will wrap by the end of this year, and we could be looking at a 2026 release on Amazon Prime Video.

Simran opens up on viral feud over ‘Mother Roles' comment
Simran, currently riding high on the success of her latest film Tourist Family, recently grabbed headlines for her strong response to a fellow actress's remark about her playing mother roles. The exchange sparked widespread speculation that she was referring to actress Jyothika and the popular web series Dabba Cartel. In a recent interview, Simran addressed the controversy, confirming that her comments were indeed linked to Dabba Cartel. She revealed that she had watched the series and found it to be a good show. 'People are overthinking and making guesses. The person I was referring to understood it and even apologized to me, saying she didn't intend to hurt my feelings,' Simran said. Simran elaborated that while the other actress had a right to her opinion, the choice of words was what upset her. She stressed that she spoke honestly from the heart but felt that people read too much into it. The incident reportedly began when Simran messaged a fellow actress to praise her performance. The actress responded with a comment, 'At least it's better than doing aunty roles,' which Simran found insensitive. She replied firmly, 'It's okay to do aunty or mother roles. That's better than doing meaningless or 'dabba' roles.' On the professional front, Simran continues to receive appreciation for her role in Tourist Family, proving her versatility and staying power in the industry. This candid clarification from Simran has helped clear the air, showcasing her confidence and grace amid the recent buzz.

'Jyothika loved the script, but unfortunately, her travel plans clashed with our shooting timeline,' Tharun Moorthy added. 'The idea of reuniting Mohanlal and Shobana stayed with me' Thudarum - Official Teaser Eventually, the team circled back to Shobana, which Moorthy said felt like the most natural choice. 'The idea of reuniting Mohanlal and Shobana stayed with me. That pairing holds a special place in the hearts of Malayali audiences,' he said. Tharun Moorthy worried about the genre confusion In another interview with The Cue, Moorthy also addressed concerns about the film's genre being misinterpreted. 'There's excitement when a film features someone like Mohanlal. But what concerns me is how quickly people label it as a crime thriller. Thudarum is fundamentally a family drama, and I hope the audience views it through that lens.' The film, which marks the return of the iconic Mohanlal-Shobana duo after 15 years, is scheduled to hit theatres on April 25, 2025.
