'K-Pop Big 2 Super Concert' Featuring GOT7's BamBam & I-DLE Cancelled; Organiser Issues Statement

It's only the first week of June, and things are unfortunately not off to a good start. Back in April, it was announced that GOT7 member BamBam (뱀뱀) and members of I-DLE (아이들)(formerly (G)-IDLE) would be performing in Malaysia at a joint concert on 14th June. The idols were scheduled to take to the stage at the K-pop Big 2 Super Concert at Stadium Merdeka, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the event. Sadly, concert organiser Live Universe Ent announced yesterday (Monday, 2nd June) that the concert has been cancelled. Here's what happened: Live Universe Ent issued an official statement informing fans that the K-pop Big 2 Super Concert featuring BamBam and (G)I-DLE will no longer proceed, as the concert permit was not approved. The statement reads: 'Despite our best efforts and full compliance with all regulatory requirements, the concert permit application was unfortunately not approved, leading to the cancellation of the event. We sincerely apologise to all fans, artists, sponsors and partners for the disappointment, and thank you for your unwavering support.' The organiser also stated that all ticket holders will receive full refunds via Ticket2U, and details of the refund process will be sent by email. Shortly after the announcement was posted, fans were understandably upset by the news, with many beginning to speculate about the real reason behind the cancellation. Some questioned how the concert could have been announced and ticket sales launched in the first place if the organiser was still awaiting permit approval, describing the move as extremely risky. Others suspected that the event was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, as Stadium Merdeka was simply too large a venue for a two-act K-pop concert. Regardless of the reason, fans were looking forward to the show and had booked flights and accommodation, only for it to be cancelled. At the time of writing, neither BamBam, I-DLE, nor the agencies have commented on the cancellation. We hope that this doesn't affect future plans of performing in Malaysia, as we're not always considered during tour announcements.
