Chief Minister to inaugurate State-level Hajj camp in Kannur on May 9
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the State-level Hajj camp and lay the foundation stone for the proposed Hajj House at the Kannur International Airport on Friday (May 9, 2025). The first Hajj flight from Kannur is scheduled to leave at 4 a.m. on May 11, while the final flight will take off on May 29.
The inaugural ceremony would be held at the airport's cargo complex, K.K. Shaija, MLA, said at a press conference.
Hajj Affairs Minister V. Abdurahiman will preside over the event, which will also witness the official launch of Kerala's 2025 Hajj embarkation centres in Kannur, Kozhikode, and Kochi.
The Hajj House will come up near the airport's third gate at Mattanur. The State government had allocated ₹6 crore in the Budget for the project.
'Setting up the Hajj House at Mattanur is significant, given the region's legacy of religious harmony and brotherhood,' said Shailaja.
To ensure a smooth experience for the pilgrims, technical training sessions were held in 11 Assembly constituencies, and vaccination camps were conducted at four major centres. Volunteers will be present at the camp throughout the Hajj embarkation period to assist pilgrims.
