(AP Photo/K.M. Chaudary) LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistan clinched the Twenty20 series against Bangladesh after winning the second match by a comfortable 57 runs on Friday. The Pakistan top order set up a 201 total for the second straight time and seven of the eight bowlers took wickets to dismiss Bangladesh for 144 in 19 overs. Advertisement Pakistan won the first match by 37 runs on Wednesday and will look for a clean sweep in the final game at the same Lahore venue on Sunday. Bangladesh slips after fiery start Tanzid Hasan scored all 32 runs in the first two overs of the chase but was out for 33 to a stunning reflex catch at short fine leg by Abrar Ahmed. By the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh was 54-3 and reeling from some splendid catches. Abrar trapped Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali leg before wicket off successive sharp googlies. At the halfway mark, Bangladesh was 78-7 and the inevitable was delayed only by No. 9 batter Tanzim Hasan Sakib, whose 50 off 31 was his maiden T20 half-century. He was the last man out as fast bowler Shoriful Islam couldn't bat after pulling up with a groin injury in his first over. Advertisement Farhan returns with a bang Sahibzada Farhan starred with the bat in only his 10th T20 since his debut six years ago. He smashed 74 off 41 balls. Farhan lost the selectors' favor after four consecutive single-digit scores against Australia last year in the T20 series. But he forced his way back by topping the batting chart in the recent Pakistan Super League. He got an opportunity after first-choice opener Fakhar Zaman was rested for Friday's game. Luck favored Farhan when he was dropped off the third ball of the match before he scored. Saim Ayub was run out in the second over after Farhan refused the third run. Advertisement Farhan then added 103 runs off 54 balls with Mohammad Haris (41) as both batted with a new licence to be aggressive under new coach Mike Hesson. Farhan got a second life after his half- century when Mehidy Hasan Miraz could not hold onto a sharp catch in the covers. Haris was caught at backward point in the 11th over, and Farhan was caught in the next over by Bangladesh captain Litton Das behind the stumps. Pakistan's middle order didn't hold back, and its latest T20 batting sensation, Hasan Nawaz, blistered 51 off 25 balls with three sixes and two fours. But Pakistan scored only 40 runs in the final five overs with an excellent comeback by fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, 2-47. ___ AP cricket:

(AP Photo/K.M. Chaudary) LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Fast bowler Hasan Ali grabbed a 5-30 and led a new-look Pakistan T20 cricket team to a thumping 37-run win over Bangladesh in the opening game of their three-match series on Wednesday. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha made a career-best 56 as Pakistan posted a competitive 201-7 after Agha won the toss and elected to bat in Mike Hesson's first assignment as Pakistan's new white-ball head coach. Advertisement Hasan, playing only his second Twenty20 international in more than 2-1/2 years, dismissed both openers with the new ball and claimed three more wickets in the death overs to bowl out Bangladesh for 164 in 19.2 overs. Pakistan dropped seasoned batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in a bid to look for youngsters, who could bat aggressively — especially in the power play. The selectors also overlooked fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi for the home series despite the left-arm fast bowler leading Lahore Qalandars to their third Pakistan Super League title in four years last Sunday. Hasan rocks Bangladesh Advertisement In the absence of Afridi, Hasan provided Pakistan early breakthroughs despite Tanzid Hasan smashing three sixes and two fours in his brisk 31-run knock off 17 balls. Parvez Hossain Emon, who scored a century against United Arab Emirates in a T20 last week, could score only four as he mistimed a pull shot against Hasan and was caught on the edge of the circle. Tanzid's aggression was also cut short by Hasan's knuckle ball as the left-hander got deceived by slowness of the delivery and was clean bowled in the fourth over. Skipper Litton Das (48) and Towhid Hridoy (17) combined in a 63-run stand off 48 balls but the asking rate always kept creeping as Shadab Khan bowled a tidy four-over spell of 2-26. Advertisement Das was smartly caught at point by Fakhar Zaman as he tried to square cut Shadab in the 12th over and Hridoy was out plumb leg before wicket when he tried to play across the line against left-arm spinner Khushdil Shah in the next over. Jaker Ali countercharged briefly with 36 off 20 balls that included three sixes and a boundary but was caught at short fine leg as he tried to play Hasan's short ball but top-edged to Abrar Ahmed. Hasan also took a brilliant running catch to dismiss Tanzim Hasan Sakib before he finished off Bangladesh innings when No. 11 Shoriful Islam was caught at long-off. Agha and Shadab spur Pakistan Advertisement Pakistan had a bumpy start when Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman, both returning to international cricket after injuries, fell inside the first eight balls. Saim offered a tame return catch off the first ball he faced against Mahedi Hasan and Zaman played Shoriful across the line and was adjudged leg before wicket. But Mohammad Haris, replacing wicket-keeper batter Rizwan, didn't hold back and counterpunched in the power play with a brisk 31 off 18 balls. Fast bowler Tanzim intelligently varied his pace and dismissed Haris soon after the powerplay before Agha and Pakistan's new T20 batting sensation Hasan Nawaz took charge. Advertisement Agha smashed eight fours and a six while Nawaz, who was adjudged PSL player of the tournament, smashed four sixes and a two fours in his belligerent 44 runs off just 22 balls. Agha fell to a soft dismissal when he chipped an easy catch to extra cover of Mahmud's high full toss while Nawaz smashed Rishad Hossain for two fours and a six before offering a straightforward catch to the spinner in the 14th over. But Shadab took charge in the final four overs as Pakistan scored 51 off the last 23 balls before Shadab holed out at mid-on off the penultimate ball. All the six Bangladesh bowlers were amongst the wickets with Shoriful bagging 2-32, but Rishad returned with expensive figures of 1-55. Lahore will also host the remaining two games on Friday and Sunday. ___ AP cricket:

(AP Photo/K.M. Chaudary) LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Lahore Qalandars qualified for their third Pakistan Super League final in four years after an emphatic 95-run win against defending champion Islamabad United on Friday. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed two wickets for three runs in his three overs as Islamabad was routed for 107 in 15.1 overs in reply to Lahore's imposing 202-8. Advertisement Islamabad struggled to get going in the chase in the absence of star opener Alex Hales, who missed the crucial eliminator to attend a friend's wedding in Spain. Afridi got a wicket with his third ball when he uprooted the middle stump of Mohammad Shahzad for a duck. Lahore pace bowler Salman Mirza (3-16) took all of his wickets inside the powerplay as Islamabad never recovered after crumbling to 33-4. Mirza bowled league leading run-getter Sahibzada Farhan for 3. Pakistan Twenty20 captain Salman Ali Agha top-scored with 33 off 26 balls and Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan made 26 off 14 balls. Nobody else reached double figures. Advertisement Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain picked up 3-34 and Afridi bagged the last two wickets to seal the win. Earlier, Lahore's faith on rookie opener Mohammad Naeem paid off in the crunch game when he smashed 50 off 25 balls with seven fours and two sixes. Sri Lankan left-hander Kusal Perera added 61 off 35 and countryman Bhanuka Rajapaksa made a valuable 22. Asif Ali smashed two late sixes to ensure Lahore breached 200. Lahore won the league in 2022 and 2023 and will meet 2019 winner Quetta Gladiators in the final on Sunday at Lahore. ___ AP cricket:

(AP Photo/K.M. Chaudary) LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Quetta Gladiators made it to its first Pakistan Super League final in six years when it beat defending champion Islamabad United by 30 runs in qualifier 1 on Wednesday. Pakistan's premier domestic T20 tournament was suspended for nine days due to tensions between India and Pakistan. Advertisement Quetta's only PSL title came in 2019 when it beat Peshawar Zalmi by eight wickets in the final. All-rounder Faheem Ashraf was the star for Quetta as his rampant 45 off 23 balls propelled the former champion to 209-6 with Dinesh Chandimal also contributing a handy unbeaten 48 off 28 balls. Ashraf and Chandimal countercharged with a 95-run partnership off 48 balls after Quetta ran into trouble at 113-5 in the 12th over as both batters smashed eight boundaries and six sixes in between them. Ashraf (2-33) then struck immediately with the new ball when he bowled opening batter Alex Hales of England for a duck of his second ball and later also hit the top of James Neesham's off-stump as Islamabad got bowled out for 179 in 19.4 overs. Advertisement Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan top-scored with 52 — his fourth 50-plus score in the tournament — and Salman Ali Agha made 44 in an otherwise lackluster performance by Islamabad batters. Off-spinner Usman Tariq picked up 3-32 while fast bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Wasim shared four wickets between them. Karachi Kings will take on Lahore Qalandars in the eliminator on Thursday with the winner to face Islamabad in the qualifier 2 on Friday. The final will is Sunday. ___ AP cricket:

(AP Photo/W.K. Yousufzai) ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan's premier Twenty20 cricket tournament resumes Saturday after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan was achieved. There will be a handful of foreign players returning for the remaining eight games. The Pakistan Super League was suspended on May 9 but last weekend Pakistan and India agreed to a ceasefire after talks to defuse their most serious military confrontation in decades. Advertisement The Indian Premier League, also suspended due to the outbreak between the countries, will also resume this weekend. PSL organizers first proposed moving the tournament to Dubai but later decided to postpone it after foreign players were reluctant to participate in the tournament due to security concerns. Around 43 foreign cricketers — competing on six PSL teams — were flown out of Pakistan from an airbase in Rawalpindi. Rawalpindi will host the remaining four league matches between May 17-19 before Lahore hosts the playoffs from May 21, including the final at Gaddafi Stadium on May 25. Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikander Raza is among some of foreign players who have returned to Pakistan. Raza, who plays for Lahore Qalandars, is available for Lahore's crucial last league game against Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday before he flies to England for test duty starting next week. Advertisement Raza will not be available for Lahore if the two-time champions qualify for the playoffs due to his test commitments. He said that if the PSL resumed, he planned to return to Pakistan, even for just one match. 'I was very clear in my head that I was always going to go back,' Raza told The Associated Press as he trained with his teammates at Islamabad Club ground on Thursday. 'This PSL is not just about winning a trophy, there's a lot more to it. All the overseas (players) that have come back, whether they're in Pakistan or India, I think credit must be given to them because cricket unites and the whole purpose of sports all around the world is to unite cultures, countries.' Advertisement Lahore will also have Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for its must-win last league game against the Babar Azam-led Peshawar side after Tom Curran and Daryl Mitchel were ruled out due to injuries. Raza said it was tough for the families of all the players living abroad after there was escalation at the borders. 'Whether it's Pakistan or India, what happened was tough for everybody,' Raza said. 'Sometimes when you're on the ground, things may not be as bad, but (for) people back home watching TV, sometimes it's very hard to control what media tells you.' Lahore team director Sameen Rana said it was important that the PSL returns to finish the season. Advertisement 'There's a lot of uncertainty and the conditions which were happening on the ground was not the best, it's unfortunate,' Rana said. 'But from our perspective . . . the important thing is that the PSL is resuming, and that's what matters.' Defending champions Islamabad United has brought in Alex Hales of England and Rassie van Dussen of South Africa after initially picking both of them in the supplementary draft while Ben Dwarshuis of Australia is flying back to rejoin the team. Islamabad, the three-time PSL champions, won five games in a row at the start of the season before four successive defeats. Finn Allen of New Zealand and Rilee Rossouw of South Africa are rejoining first-place Quetta Gladiators, who have 13 points, three points ahead of Karachi and Islamabad. Karachi is expecting to have its captain David Warner back from Australia in time to lead the team against Peshawar on Saturday. ___ AP cricket:
