RCB announce ₹10 lakh financial aid for victory parade stampede victims
Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced financial support of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the 11 fans who lost their lives in a tragic stampede during the team's victory celebrations in Bengaluru on Wednesday, after winning the IPL 2025. The incident occurred outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, where an overwhelming turnout of lakhs gathered to celebrate with the players. What began as a joyous occasion quickly spiralled into panic, as crowd control measures failed under the pressure of sheer numbers. Over 50 people were injured in the stampede. In response, RCB also introduced an initiative called 'RCB Cares' to assist those hurt in the incident. While the city celebrated a historic win, the tragedy has cast a heavy shadow over the jubilant scenes. RCB Responds with Financial Support The franchise expressed deep sorrow in a statement issued the day after the incident, saying the loss of lives has brought immense grief to the entire RCB family. To honour the deceased and assist their families, the team confirmed that each of the 11 affected households would receive ₹10 lakh in compensation. Additionally, RCB announced the creation of 'RCB Cares', a fund that will extend help to injured supporters. Massive Crowds Turned Deadly According to local authorities, over 2 to 3 lakh people converged near the stadium, far beyond the expected turnout. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed 11 deaths and more than 30 injuries. He noted that most of the victims were young, and said the government, too, would extend ₹10 lakh in aid to the bereaved families. Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar said the crowd was impossible to manage, forcing them to cancel a planned victory procession. BCCI, IPL Officials Call for Accountability BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia called the incident 'deeply unfortunate' and suggested the organisers had underestimated the scale. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal echoed the sentiment, describing the tragedy as shocking and demanding a thorough inquiry by local authorities.

Over 150 school vehicles found unfit in Vellore, nearby districts
With schools set to reopen on June 2, a recent inspection by Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai found over 150 school vehicles, including vans and buses, unfit for transporting students due to safety and fitness issues. RTO officials said that at present, around 2,980 school vehicles were registered in these districts for transportation of school students. The annual assessment, which began a few days ago, is done by the district-level committee on school safety that includes a Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), Deputy SP, District Educational Officer (DEO) and Regional Transport Officer (RTO). The entire exercise should be completed by May 23 to allow unfit vehicles to do repairs and get ready before re-opening of schools on June 2. 'We track all school vehicles regularly by maintaining a separate register for fit and unfit vehicles. As a double cross-check, we also verify documents of vehicles on campuses itself prior to school reopening,' K. Shivakumar, RTO (Arani), told The Hindu. Accompanied by V. Sundarajan, RTO (Vellore), Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi inspected school vehicles in Katpadi on Tuesday. Officials said that introduction of front and rear cameras in all school vehicles from this academic year onwards was a major initiative to ensure safety of students. Alongside, transport officials have to check 21 other safety parameters, including the height of the footboard, strength of the floor, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, speed governor, driver's cabin, seats, bag racks, windows, window grill and emergency exits. Transport officials will paste 'OK' stickers on buses that passed the inspection. Deadline for unfit vehicles to get clearance is on or before May 31. Officials said the tightening of rules became a norm after the passage of the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Regulation and Control of School Buses) Special Rules, 2012, which mandates officials to inspect the school vehicles every year.
