1 in custody after car theft, chase in Cordova
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was taken into custody early Tuesday morning in Northeast Memphis after police say a vehicle was stolen from a Cordova apartment complex.
Officers say they were called to the Woodchase Apartments on 1961 Barnsbury Way just before 4 a.m. regarding a vehicle prowler.
A man told police that three men were outside his apartment trying to steal his 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.
When officers arrived in the area, they saw the Camaro along with an Infiniti Q50 parked at the Circle K gas station in the 1700 block of North Germantown Parkway. The drivers are accused of speeding away when they saw the police.

Officers then initiated their blue lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the stolen car, but the driver continued onto Interstate 40.
During the chase, smoke began to come from the stolen vehicle's engine compartment. That's when police say the driver pulled over on the interstate and got out, running towards the woods near Carvana.
The K9 Apprehension Team was able to find the suspect and take him into custody without further incident.
